      Not What I Thought It Would Be.....

      Pros

      Nice discount, but still very difficult to buy Talbots clothes on part time associate pay.

      Cons

      The sales goals are not realistic. Very stressful working conditions, and with the high sales goals, it creates tension between associates - not teamwork. We used to get a 15 minute break when working a 5 hour shift, and that was taken away. We currently work 6 hours and do not get a break at all. Also, the water cooler was taken away - not sure what that was all about - we were never told. Training is almost non-existant for the associates (zero register training). Even during the slow times, when there are no customers in the stores, and the clothes are folded impecably - the management doesn't want you to talk to another associate.

      Reasonably Decent Place to Work

      Pros

      *upscale retail store = more respectable place to work *better than average pay for retail *managers were good at communicating important details *sometimes good perks (incentives for getting the most charges opened, etc) *friendly coworkers *were allowed to wear capris and sandals in summer

      Cons

      *standing on your feet all day in dress shoes can get uncomfortable *selling goals were sometimes outrageous when the stores just did not have any customers *when I requested part time (15 hrs/week) I was given 20 *high turnover - when I left, the staff was almost totally different than when I started *upper-level management sometimes condescending

      Employee discount is pretty descent .. ...

      Cons

      lack of integrity to it's employees , low moral in work environment, all show no follow thru, lazy senior management only interested in looking good and their bonuses...
