Full of contradictions

Pros

Techland gives people, even the few entry-levels they recruit, the chance to work on large, multi-platform games and learn from veterans. They also always pay on time, whatever that pay may be for you. That makes the company a good starting place and quite the boost for a career, you just need to get out quickly enough. The absolute best thing about working there is the team, junior-to-mid level specialists: fantastic people and hardworking devs.

Cons

The worst: also people. The CEO (and owner) along with the senior biz dev people, foster an atmosphere of hostility and paranoia, inserting themselves into any process or group they find out about without having the expertise or experience to do so. A part of the senior management consists of company 'mascots', good people and good specialists who got promoted very high without actually having any experience or skills for leading people or managing processes. That puts everyone in an uncomfortable position and loses those specialists' hands-on contributions. Finally, there is no bonus scheme or anything company-wide with any sort of transparency. Even after the launch of Dying Light, the company's runaway hit, there was a lot of infighting, delays and lies before the teams received some form of compensation for their blood and overtime. The fact that there has always been a caste of people exempt from any such problems doesn't help morale in the trenches.

Pros

- Amazing people in the middle and lower parts. Very smart and talented people. - Company tends to promote from inside. Chance to be promoted is very visible (difficult to determine if salary rise is matched) - Recognizable games - Big game and book library to rent from - Having your ideas heard and tried - Nice city to live in

Cons

- Company often takes on ideas or products totally outside of Techland's expertise and then it drops the responsibility to make it work on those who were never even consulted on the matter. - A mentality of cost cutting from management. "Do the best for the cheapest" - "Peter Principle" seen often. Many people with talent get promoted or given more responsibility till they are overwhelmed. - CEO + business development have a lot of say, but don't know games very well or at all. - Certain managers are not management material. Only there because they have been with the company for many years. - Last minute feedback which is often not good at all to change everything
