Pros

1. Opportunity to work hybrid (1 day a week for leadership, once a month otherwise) assisting with work/life balance. 2. Competitive base pay with added monthly bonuses based off performance. 3. Health benefits 4. $1000 towards dental work at Tend studios 5. Great coworkers contribute to a positive work environment. 6. Supportive management that fosters a sense of trust, open communication, and professional growth, ensuring that employees feel supported and valued in their roles.

Cons

1. Health benefits are rather pricy, which can be expected from a newer company, but still unfortunate. 2. $1000 towards dental work at Tend studios has to be paid up front and reimbursed, which can be tricky if you do not have the money to pay out of pocket initially for your procedures.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and experience at Tend. Thank you for your dedication to your team and our members for the past 2+ years. We have a very competitive total rewards package that consists of compensation, benefits, and work/life balance elements that have been updated throughout the years based on team member feedback. We know being together is engaging and helps us align strategically & tactically, and for hub roles, there is an opportunity for varying hybrid work to maximize team member desires and the team’s effective work product. As a growing organization, we look to continue expanding our total rewards package with affordable and exciting options based on our varying teams needs. Dental done greedily

Pros

The clinicians are passionate and caring, and are wonderful people to work with. Many do their best to deliver on the Tend promise of “changing dentistry” and making the dentist not such an intimidating place to be. They deserve far better than they get, especially the hygienists and dental assistants.

Cons

Oh boy, where to start. Tend has a myriad of problems that start from the top and trickle all the way down to the bottom, affecting everything from patient care to employee satisfaction. Don’t be fooled by the sparkly ads and social media campaigns, at the end of the day, Tend only cares about production goals. This is accomplished through micromanagement at every level; corporate micromanages the studio managers, turning them into micromanagers themselves. This makes for an extremely unpleasant work environment, as new, unnecessary measures are constantly put in place to ensure studios can make as much production as possible. These include pressuring patients to schedule treatment, harassing them if they don’t, and overbooking schedules to increase doctor production/account for “possible falloff” which many times does not happen. This negatively affects the staff as well, as many feel constantly overworked and pressured to increase both their individual and studio production, even if they are part of the majority that see no benefit from it (only managers and doctors get bonuses). Employees are expected to constantly be in work mode, no matter what. I have seen employees harassed on vacation, shamed for calling out due to medical emergencies, and forced to come into work despite hurricanes and blizzards. At least one studio has even been forced to illegally operate without a doctor present, just for the slightest chance at a little more production. This company has very little regard for both patients and employees, and this has resulted in broken trust and an extremely high turnover rate.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Feedback from our current and former team members is extremely important to us and essential to helping us continue to improve the employee experience. We are sorry to learn that this was your experience. We strive to deliver on our promise to create an environment that both our patients and our teams enjoy. We are sorry to have let you down. Our dentists and hygienists are given the autonomy to provide the best possible care to their patients and are supported by a group of operational and clinical leaders that prioritize patient outcomes over quotas. We are an early stage company continuously learning and improving. Our most successful team members are nimble, flexible and driven to create experiences members look forward to. We reject the claim that any team was forced to practice illegally or come to work in conditions that were unsafe or hazardous. We would be grateful for the opportunity to speak with you about your experience to address these concerns. Please reach out to people@hellotend.com to continue the conversation.

Thank you for sharing your feedback; we're so sorry to hear your experience at Tend hasn't been wholly positive. We're proud to share that in responding to feedback we received in our annual team member engagement survey, we began offering better company-sponsored healthcare options this year. Additionally, as a young organization, we know how important it is for us to consistently listen and continue improving our employee and member experience. We appreciate you sharing your concerns about operating across multiple regions, which is an inevitable part of the national scaling that Tend has set out to accomplish. We can assure you that we are always working to increase efficiencies to maintain the same level of excellence in service as we grow, and would love to hear your thoughts and work with you on potential solutions. Pros

This position serves as an excellent foundational opportunity for aspiring dental assistants. It provides a robust platform for acquiring fundamental expertise in general dentistry. Moreover, individuals may opt to progress towards specialized fields such as oral surgery or orthodontics. This trajectory underscores the potential for professional advancement, including roles in management. The comprehensive benefits package encompasses sick and vacation leave, alongside a 401K plan.

Cons

Anticipate potential challenges within this work environment, including the possibility of not being able to take allotted breaks due to staffing shortages. There might be issues related to fixed schedules, with occurrences of sudden staff absences. The management's attentiveness and clinical knowledge might be lacking. Colleagues might engage in gossip and exhibit a deficiency in collaborative teamwork. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) may display rudeness and a lack of respect for individuals' privacy. Human Resources (HR) functions primarily in the company's interests rather than those of the employees. Unforeseen patient appointments could arise at the last minute, necessitating flexibility. Overtime might be necessary beyond the scheduled hours. Advancement in the organizational hierarchy could entail cultivating favorable relationships. There may be inadequacies in necessary procedural supplies, and speaking out could lead to adverse consequences, as the company has been known to terminate individuals who voice concerns. Prepare for the likelihood of encountering numerous dissatisfied patients who may choose to seek care at alternative facilities and openly express their discontent with their TEND experience. The establishment appears to operate in a manner akin to an elevated Medicaid-focused practice. Distinctive operational approaches at TEND do not seem to substantially deviate from those observed within other Dental Support Organizations (DSOs). It is worth noting that the recurrent turnover of personnel has made a lasting impact, which prospective employers consider when evaluating individuals with prior TEND affiliations.

We want our team members to grow & develop with us, and see the career path at Tend for all roles. For Dental Assistants, you are correct that we promote from within for specialty assistant roles, have leadership opportunities, and want our team members to find success with us. We strive to provide flexible schedules for team members and support their working needs. Pros

fun work environment, great office space, learned a lot about dental

Cons

PTO and sick policy is strict, takes months to accrue any time off, when sick time is used you get in trouble, management does not listen/care about your frustration, have to pick up others work because of short staff, communication between departments is awful, been with Tend for over 2 years and have gotten no bonus or raise

Thank you for taking the time to share about your experience. We appreciate your feedback and are pleased to hear that you enjoy the work environment and office space at your location. We are also happy to know that you have been part of the team since our early days and value your dedication to the organization. We understand how important it is to listen and make changes based on employee feedback and take your comments and concerns seriously. Tend provides paid time off as a benefit to help you take time to refresh, rejuvenate, and spend time with friends and family. We did release a new paid time off policy for 2022 that divides PTO into two categories: vacation and sick time both accrued based on role and time with the Company. We will continue to work with each individual to ensure you feel supported and PTO is applied properly. We appreciate each of our studio teams and are constantly seeking ways to recognize the great work that you are doing. We so regret coming up short in this instance and are committed to continuing to look for ways to show how much you are appreciated, and deliver on our promise of bettering the dental experience for both our patients and our team members. We understand how frustrating breakdowns in communication across teams can be. This is an area we are always working to improve and will continue to iterate on as the company expands our footprint throughout the country. If you’re interested in continuing the dialogue, please reach out to us directly at at people@hellotend.com, or via AllVoices, our anonymous internal hotline. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
