Pros

You can work from home. Decent health insurance. The people were usually pretty nice. A couple people just sucked in general, but I’d imagine it’s like that anywhere.

Cons

No chances for advancing your career. You have to threaten to quit just to get a small pay bump. It doesn’t matter how good your bosses think you are at your job, they’ll abuse the fact that you work quickly and refuse to compensate you for it. There was also a weird racial nepotism. The two project managers at AMT would hire almost exclusively other Indian people, regardless of whether they were any good a programming or not. There’s a disproportionate amount of Indian developers at L3 and L4 level (and in general) and only 1 of them program above a college freshman level. But that actually speaks to a larger issue: most of the developers, regardless of their title, aren’t up to par with what you would expect from someone who gets paid more than 15k per year to write code. There are a few great minds, but most have no business developing in a professional setting with their current skill level. Maybe that’s just the state of the candidates on the job market, but I have suspicions it’s just poor vetting during the hiring process. It’s not completely horrible, could be a decent first gig, but be prepared for a stagnant career and the general incompetence that will surround you.

Turn arround is high

Pros

As a consultant engineer you'll be surrounded by very knowledgable professionals and management encourages team playing. Colleages are super nice and friendly with the desire to team work with others. Hours are very flexible depending on your client and project. Your manager will never make you feel bad about taking a day off for your health. Overtime is paid.

Cons

The turn around is high and most faces are new which discourages creating meaninful bonds with coworkers. Family, ethics, team spirit values are always preached by management but not always acted upon. Management indirectly encourages people to think for their own as self employement and to dissociate from the company on an emotional and strategic level (do whats best for you, and we do whats best for us).
