Pros
The overall set up of working at The Breakers is incredible. They take orientation and training very seriously, and the environment is very welcoming. Most of the staff that works there is extremely friendly and facilities available to the staff such as the dining cafe and access to on site activities would make it a fun and enjoyable place to work. The organization and emphasis on creating a meaningful work experience honestly is great, and this is thanks to senior management.
Cons
Lower level management very unprofessional and managers within my department were more caught up in gossip and cattiness among the staff than actually providing their employees with support. Truthfully managers in this department acted as though they were still in high school, being cliquey, talking poorly about people within the department, spreading rumors, and not offering any concrete help. They do not understand boundaries and are completely out of line. I've heard managers ask staff overly-personal questions to staff which made the employees uncomfortable and unwilling to share their answers, then the managers offered up gossip or rumors about another employee to try to convince that staff member to answer their questions. Their idea of working "on the floor" was all standing in a line together on the opposite side of the valet lanes watching employees and talking poorly about their own "teammates" at work without doing much work themselves. I sincerely recommend working within a different department at the Breakers because it's a wonderful company but Guest Services is a toxic environment.
