Pros

Good vacation time and benefits

Cons

Management expects you to 60+ hour weeks on a 40 hour salary during the busy times and offer no consolation during slow periods. If you are expected to work 12 hour days when it is busy, you should have a few afternoons off w/o using vacation time when it is slow. The work loads become unmanageable at times and while they are understanding during the busy times, they also use it against you during your review to reduce the amount of your raise or bonus. Their internal promotions are a joke. They promote on the buddy system. Employees with more seniority, better work history (reviews), and better attributes (such as leadership skills) are passed over in favor of personal friends. While they interview all of the internal candidates for the promotion position, most of the time the decision is already made. There have also been situations where a preferred candidate will receive written instructions with the questions that will be asked during the interview, and the answers that they are looking for.

Pros

Generous time off starting at day one

Cons

The work load is extremely heavy for the pay, The metrics you are expected to meet are almost unattainable. The customer service center is more like a writing agent job. If the entire account is not reviewed, regardless of the last review date, you get dinged on your metrics. You are extremely micromanaged. The better you are at your job the longer they keep you in your position. Some of the managers have never worked in the department they manage and were hired from outside the company. There is no cost of living adjustments and pay and if you get a raise it is very minimal at best. You are expected to get consult in new lines of business, but at the end of the year risk losing that in the form of a bonus if you do not exceeded expectations, regardless of how well you did throughout the year. There is no support, especially in the customer service center and it makes it very difficult to do your job efficiently with all of the hoops you have to jump through to make changes to accounts. Most people quit in the customer service because of the lack of chance to advance in other areas of the company.

Pros

Benefits, PTO, people Very little responsibility and accountability which could be pro or con.

Cons

Incompetent management in systems. Management is very micro oriented. A new employee, dba, with 20 years experience , said that management is scared to move anything in fear of it not working. Best story, 3 consultants were let go due to incompetency. 5 years later they were brought back. A few years later 2 of the 3 were CIOs at Hanover and one is currently the CIO. That is a joke as is the mgt in systems. My daughter has been underwriter at another company for 3 years. In the underwriting business, she has been told Hanover pays but the underwriters hands are tied once hired due to Hanover management. Good place to get salary bump and then leave.
