TNC is not what it used to be...

Pros

Great mission. Science staff are very smart and fun to work with. Feeling like your work, no matter how tedious is helping to make the world a better place. There are still good programs and departments to work for and possibly even some great chapters left. However, this was not my experience.

Cons

Leadership at the Chapter level is non existent. Favoritism. Nepotism. Flexible schedule and work from home perks are not consistent within and across departments. Disproportionate workload among rank and file staff. Philanthropy department leadership is particularly incompetent and dysfunctional. Zero reward for hardworking employees except for more work. Bad employees are not managed or reprimanded. There has been a major talent exodus in the CA Philanthropy Dept. with the best staff moving on to global programs or leaving the organization.

Lack of racial diversity in leadership

Pros

Depending on the team/manager, you can have a flexible schedule working from home on occasion. 35 hour work week (doesn't apply to all departments). The mission of the organization is good.

Cons

Virtually no racial diversity of leadership staff. Many of those that do have a racially diverse background have sad stories to tell about the treatment and inequities they have received while employed here. Many people of color end up leaving the organization. Clear and blatant favoritism. Old boys club network. "Layoffs" happen frequently.
