Pros

- You'll likely meet interesting members/clients - Hours are flexible - Culture is supportive (celebrating team's birthdays, wins, etc.) - You work solo on shift - Can help members get stronger, which feels rewarding

Cons

- The methodology is hard to explain to members and harder to stand by. The company prides itself on being evidence based, but cherry picks research studies to sell that this is the most effective to train. You'll be trained to tell fitness-related lies to members based on these cherry picked studies. - Low pay, and the company will change your compensation plan if they think you're making too much money. - Top performers be warned. Hustle culture doesn't even begin to explain it. Good, hard work gets rewarded with more work. - Benefits are really poor, almost nonexistent. You won't have health insurance (it's a "supplemental plan," good luck if you break a bone) or dental/vision. Paid time off is paid at minimum wage for your state, so if you get sick or take a trip your paycheck will suffer. No mental health benefits either. 401k starts after 1 year of full time employment. - Culty culture. Upper management often pushed the “we’re a family” narrative, which at first sounded warm but quickly became unhealthy. This mindset blurred professional boundaries, discouraged people from honestly speaking up, and created pressure to put the company above personal needs. Genuine feedback or individuality was often seen as disloyal, and there was an unspoken expectation to conform and constantly show enthusiasm, even when morale was low. Which is funny because "candor" is one of the company values. - Working here does not make you an actual, nationally certified personal trainer. You're either a cheerleader for a person using a robot workout machine that runs itself, or counting to 10 while they exert on a Nautilus machine. You won't be able to train at any other facility if this is your only fitness experience, unless it has the same exact model.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear you appreciated the supportive aspects of our culture, the flexibility in scheduling, and the rewarding connections with members. We’d like to clarify a few points. Our training methodology is rooted in research, and while we understand not every approach resonates with everyone, we’re proud of the positive outcomes it delivers for many of our members. Regarding pay and benefits, our compensation is competitive with industry standards, and we continue to review and evolve our offerings to meet the needs of our team while supporting the overall health of the business. We also recognize your feedback on culture. Our intent in fostering a close, team-oriented environment is to build connection and support, not to blur boundaries. We’re committed to creating a workplace where employees feel both included and respected as individuals. We appreciate your contributions during your time with us and wish you success in your future endeavors.

Pros

Easy interview and high chance of acceptance as I've seen people hired with no experience or social skills.

Cons

FMs and RMs are incapable of following inactive protocols, pay structure is tied to a quarterly tier which is treated like a game, this job favors states with low hourly wages as they'll pay you that while you're on your own to build your own clientele with no suport (FM and RM will ask to offer support but truly know nothing), extremely high turnover (25%+ per year), yearly offsite is free for all tech and marketing but only the top 5 out of 200 personal trainers make it

Does not value employees

Pros

TPW is a terrible place to work and does not value its employees. They set up shop in some of the most expensive areas but then pay their employees slave wages. These clients are paying over $500/mo for 2 20-minute workouts a week, yet they pay their employees barely over minimum wage. The studios are usually in office-type buildings and they are BLEAK. No amenities. If you ask where all of the money goes - they'll tell you "oh we spend so much money on marketing". PLEASE. They don't even give out holiday bonuses. Really? Not even a $5 Starbucks card? The owner is a quack job and you better believe he has a very expensive home in one of the most expensive parts of San Diego. Yet I could barely pay my rent. Go figure. STAY AWAY!!

Cons

Everything is a con with TPW

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. After reviewing our compensation plan, we have found it to be generous compared to other companies in our industry. Trainers are compensated a base pay above minimum wage and rewarded for performance. They are also provided opportunities to grow their income with commissions and bonuses leading to much higher wages. We do appreciate your candor and will take your feedback into consideration moving forward. If you would like to provide any additional information, please email dana.wiltshire@theperfectworkout.com.
