Sales Associate "Design Consultant"
Pros
None. The best bet is to never work here.
Cons
I was going to write my own personal review But this one is so well described that I'll just go ahead and leave this right here. I recently resigned by leaving at the end of a pay period and making sure my money was in the bank before I quit. I've heard stories of where the associate doesn't get a last check. "I went into this position with high hopes, promises of BIG paychecks, growth opportunity, etc.… Basically, this place will suck the life right out of you. First things first, the pay structure is sketchy at best. You are promised huge paychecks and commission for your sales. The percentage is decent but what they don’t make clear or fail to tell you at all is that if you don’t keep an open “bank” of at minimum $13,000 $15,000per pay period you will never see a dime of your “commission.” If you have less than the $13,000-$15,000 in your “bank,” you get the bare minimum of a wait for it, $700 take home on top of which you must pay back if you get to that point! They call it subsidy; I call it a scam. Don’t get too excited when you make a sale to think you can get out of subsidy, they’ll just take it off that sale you just made and your back in the hole owing them money for working! To make it okay financially you should be clearing $40,000-$50,000 per month. Don’t get too excited again, because then you need to worry about co-workers and staff at other stores stealing your orders! Even the Managers and Assistant Managers will steal your deals at your own store and others. You are hired as a Sales Associate/Design Consultant but oh no that’s not all. You will also be cleaning the store from top to bottom, performing inventory, stocking shelves, organizing rows and rows of tile, stone, glass, etc.… loading up orders in the warehouse, even putting your own orders together yourself. I hope you can also operate a forklift because the warehouse staff usually leave in the afternoon and are off weekends. Customers are still coming in until late to pick up orders and of course customer's come in on weekends to pick up as well. You will also be a delivery driver in your own vehicle unpaid for your gas, your mileage, and your time! You are also expected to work outrageous hours. 9+ hour days, 6 days a week, no weekends off. You are told to build up your clientele of retail customers, builders, contractors, installers, and the like and told those are your people if you bring them in. Not true! You can work for months and months to finally start seeing positive results and a better paycheck after working yourself to exhaustion building that clientele and if they don’t ask for you when they come in another sales person will get the sale and the commission for it. Even if they do ask for you and it’s your day off or your helping another customer you better check to make sure your sale or deal didn’t get stolen by a fellow sales person that maybe spent all of 5 minutes with them after you spend hours designing and working! When you are busy especially on the weekends most of your time is spent loading up other co-workers’ orders and assisting other sales people’s customers. While you are doing this, that sales person is out on the floor greeting and assisting new customers that are walking in making money. You get paid nothing to help customers that you did not place the order on. You do not get paid to load up orders either. For commission, you get paid, if you aren’t in subsidy, basically paying the company to work, you are well under minimum wage. You are told to say no to customers if they ask you if you're paid commission. There is no equal treatment of staff. It builds resentments and makes for a miserable work environment. You are told you can take a 1 hour lunch plus breaks but very rarely can you dare to leave, again for fear of missing out on a sale or missing one of your customers and losing them to another sales person. Sexual harassment and gossip runs rampant. If you’re a good employee, you will be stepped on plain and simple. If you enjoy no life outside of this place, being underpaid, working exhausting hours, working every weekend, hate spending time with family and friends, then this is the place for you. If not, RUN!" I can attest.
