A Tale as Old as Capitalism – Zappos No Longer Exists

Pros

• Some good coworkers are still trying to keep the spirit alive. • Health insurance covers a lot (though it’s very expensive).

Cons

• A tale as old as capitalism: big corporation swallows a smaller company with soul, then squeezes out the humanity in favor of profits. • Leadership is hidden. In the past year since the new CEO took over, she’s only appeared to the company a couple of times. You can’t speak to her unless your boss and your boss’s boss approve it. • The “head of people” doesn’t know people at all. Employees feel like headcount, not humans. • CEO’s right-hand admin has been overheard trashing employees in common areas. Leadership is openly disrespectful, not just disconnected. • Engagement roles were cut, but employees are still forced back to the office while certain leaders quietly keep remote privileges.

Pros

The coworkers will go above and beyond always. They are great people.

Cons

1. Leadership: leaders came over from another Amazon subsidiary, Shopbop. The leadership team members now are bullies. They do not listen to data or employees, despite these employees having many years of successes and experience at the company. They also negatively talk about employees to other employees. 2. Benefits & pay: majority of employees’ salaries were dropped on average 30% in 2025. Benefits changed as well and are worse than Zappos benefits but cost more. 3. Perks: starting in 2025, Zappos no longer has events or parties and most fun things in the office were removed. 4. Job security: layoffs can happen anytime. No severance.

Pros

Employees seem to genuinely care about one another.

Cons

New leadership is focused primarily on profits, and doesn't bother to get to know their employees.
