Great mission but execution needs work

Pros

Opportunity to help and mentor troubled youth. Good co-workers.

Cons

Some houses are more like mini-juvies. Administrators don't recognize good work and employees. They hire therapists from outside the agency and don't even reach out to internal applicants.

Thank you for your response. Hiring internally is always our first choice but when there is not an internal candidate, an outside candidate is sought.

Best place to learn and grow

Pros

It is a hands off program that relies on its trauma informed care to de-escalate clients. You get at least two hours of supervision a week, both individual and group. It is an amazing place to learn as you are never alone when working with the kids. The staff create a supportive environment where feedback is a big part of the work place culture.

Cons

You have to be willing to look at yourself when you are at this job. You are able to utilize your supervisor for support, but this can be challenging at times. The schedule can be hard, but it allows you to maximize time for family meetings that are not during the work day.

Pros

I love that third way is one of the few residential facilities that doesn’t do restraints, it makes the kids and staff feel a lot safer. The philosophy is amazing and genuinely changes the lives of kids and staff, it feels like the work you’re doing really does matter and make a difference. Leaders are supportive and you can tell that they really do believe in the organization and their decisions reflect that. It pays well for mental health and there are opportunities to move up/around in the organization, they genuinely care about investing in people and helping you grow within the company. I think it’s special that the people in charge aren’t detached from the agency and are very involved with kids and staff.

Cons

Some of the hours can be rough, like most mental health jobs they ask a lot from you but they’re transparent about that. If you aren’t interested in milieu therapy and being on the floor with the kids most of the time, then you may struggle because that is the primary focus.
