Difficult but rewarding work with mixed reception

Pros

The mission here is good and Third Way is better than many residentials. Pay is decent for the work you do.

Cons

As an MHC, you're expected to have a certain personality and if you're more introverted than you're thought to be indifferent to the kids. Upper management doesn't seem to appreciate different personalities with different methods of relating to young people. Also, seniority isn't appreciated. If you put in for a higher position which you're more than qualified for, don't be surprised if they reach out to someone outside the agency with no explanation to you.

Lack of consistent oversight. Lack of appreciation for good work. Admissions of clients without specified trauma.

Wearing too many hats

Pros

A good mission and programing for the kids that live there. Excellent coworkers. This is probably one of the best residential treatment programs that I have found in Colorado that actually uses a full trauma-informed program.

Cons

You will not only be a therapist but caseworker, family therapist, and milieu staff. Even though they give you 1/2 a day to do paperwork you will never have enough time to get the mountain loads of paperwork done because the Milieu staff will need you often. You are on the floor all the time with little time where you are able to pull a kid for a individual talk or speak with their families.
