The Way Work SHOULD Be!

Pros

Tilson Technology is a unique company and employer in every sense. Tilson is the fastest growing, hardest working, most challenging company for which I have ever worked. For me, and for my colleagues, Tilson provides the greatest opportunity to challenge oneself with growth only limited by your own efforts and desires. Tilson hires smart people, gives them autonomy and opportunity to create (personally and in business). It heralds their successes and mentors their fall-backs. Few companies do so much for their employees current and future opportunities, even if they move on to other positions outside of Tilson. Josh Broder, CEO and owner, actively leads the company and takes daily personal interest in fostering a team of great people by offering good pay and good benefits, with a eye toward making Portland, Maine, and Tilson's other local branch communities, great places to live, work, and thrive.

Cons

As a fast growth, aggressive mover in the marketplace, Tilson can be taxing in its pace. With all of the opportunities for personal growth and advancement noted above, much is asked of each employee: hard work, long hours, occasional crossed signals on company direction. Even as it is highly successful, it is still maturing in policies, processes, and staffing. The road to success is not always a smooth curve up; there are bumps along the way. However, the positives outnumber the negatives by a significant multiple.

Thank you for your positive review, and noting the opportunity for people who want more. Agreed on the challenges of growth - the bureaucracy has not caught up to the pace of operations!

Pros

I have worked for Tilson for just shy of five years now, starting in a low level administrative position and working my way into a role managing projects and people. This is a not uncommon story among many of Tilson's project managers. During my tenure I have had many mentors and I have been given the opportunity to try roles and responsibilities that have allowed me to grow professionally and personally. This trust that Tilson places in its employees is one of the best parts of working for the company. Compensation has grown with experience and contributions to projects.

Cons

Tilson is a fast growing company and that sometimes requires learning new skills, adapting to new projects, and doing things outside of ones professional comfort zone. This is not a place where you can just do one thing day in and day out, handling multiple projects and dealing with multiple project managers in a matrix like organization is the norm. That said, Tilson has a deep subject matter expertise across all of the disciplines it deals with (and there are many!) and always has resources ready to help out and provide guidance.

Pros

One of the best companies I have ever worked for! Tilson is a very unique company that has successfully been able to maintain it core culture even with the rapid growth rate. I have never worked with a more talented group of people. The founder and CEO's dedication, commitment and leadership is truly inspiring and is what makes Tilson an exceptional place to work.

Cons

Not enough hours in the day to make it all happen. Tilson is an entrepreneurial team of people that thrives on accomplishing the next big idea. To just be, is not part of our culture. This can be very intimidating but at the same time intoxicating and is what infuses the company culture and makes Tilson an exceptional team to be a part of.

Thanks for your feedback - and I agree, the days feel too short to get it all done! Appreciate that there can be a tension between the joy and challenge of running at that pace. Keep us posted on any great ideas you may have on how we can keep the edge without going out of balance!
