Long Hours
Bad Pay
Terrible Treatment
Micromanaging of everything by people in suits who do not know about working on cars
As a mechanic they will make you work a minimum of 50+ hours a week. Generally it's five days, 11 hours each. They constantly make changes to pay and policy, and always try to convince you it's good for you, when it's obviously just a way for them to pay you less or work you more. They do not pay you for many of the things you do on a regular basis and the labor hours for many things are just pathetic compared to what others pay. If you are a good reliable employee who does good work, you will spend a large portion of your time fixing the mistakes of the other idiots that they hire. The idiots will get paid for the job and you will get nothing for fixing it. Corporate tries to run this place like Walmart. They make generalized policies that they expect to fit every car out there. The big ideas that come down the ladder from them are things like making everyone check off on each others work, and the checker is more responsible for mistakes than the original worker. For example, if Tech A is doing an oil change, he has to ask Tech B to make sure that his oil filter and drain plug are tight. Then make sure that he put enough oil in it. Then while its running lift the car back up and check for any leaks from motor, pan, and filter. Then if rotating tires, take a torque wrench and make sure the wheels are properly tightened. Then you sign off on their work order. How are you supposed to get anything done when you're doing everything twice for someone else. And having someone else do everything twice for your own cars. Then they decided that everyone should wear a little velcro pouch on their belt that holds a tread gauge, tire pressure gauge, a pen, and other various hard and sharp things that can scratch up customers cars when you're working on them. Also, any car that comes in that building with more than 15K miles on it has something wrong with it, and you better find it. If you're not willing to be dishonest and lie to customers you won't want to work there. They price gouge and try to rip off every customer that walks through that door. They treat employees like crap and everyone is replaceable. You are not important to them.
