Pros

not sure there is one, a paycheck?

Cons

This company is just a relic division of IBM that was sold off to Toshiba over 7 years ago, but they still haven't found a way to make themselves relevant. Their tech stack is old, their software is old ( a 30+ year old code base ), mostly written in C++ ( a very old version C++ ). They are struggling to implement a product that a client actually wants to purchase that is not in their old technology. The salaries they offer are not competitive or fair. They consistently keep long term employee’s salaries low, while hiring in new employees at higher rates (but still under market). The new "CEO" is also against working from home, forcing people back into the office during the COVID pandemic, while the infection rates were on the upswing!! He also makes very political statements in the company meetings like he wanted to fight the Durham, NC mask mandate. It's not about people's health & wellbeing, it's all about the $$$. Weekends, nights? Employees are basically treated like company property and expected to work any time of day of the night, weekend or weekday, no matter what is going on in your personal life. If you are really intent on taking a job here, just for the Toshiba name on your resume, you’d better be ready to start looking again right away. This is not a place you’ll want to spend any length of time at. All the good employees ARE leaving!

Cons

Toshiba is an incredibly terrible company to work for for these reasons: - Terrible work / life balance : Toshiba measures employees based on how many hours worked beyond 40 hours weekly. Vacation & sick days count against you, so in essence you are rewarded for taking fewer PTO, vacation, & sick type days and for working lots of long hours (80+ hours/weekly). - Little to nil learning opportunities - Toshiba severely discourages employees from spending time to understand something and instead suggests reusing stuff rather than creating something new based on understandings. - No stretch opportunity types of projects - Toshiba has never offered opportunities to learn outside of the box, such as with short (one day, one week, one hour/weekly, etc) innovation types of side projects. - No one knows anything - The majority of the knowledgeable employees (managers, software engineers, architects, product owners, testers) have been resigning in droves non-stop over the past few years leaving a massive knowledge-gap. The impact is severe since work cannot be designed/developed without understanding the business process & how they've implemented their technologies. - No Team culture & Employees only care for themselves - The remaining people who know stuff are truly unwilling to collaborate & aren't at all willing to help even if it is for a quick 1 or 2 minute question, which is likely because performance reviews are based on how much work is done rather than on how much collaboration and teamwork is done. As a result, helping others takes time away from them getting better reviews. - Scrum Story Descriptions & Requirements Write-ups Severely Incomplete and Innaccurate - Missing business value, requirements, & acceptance criteria, and if there is info it is way too technical (rarely written from customer & business point of view). Likely due to knowledge gap. - Terrible Telecommuting policy - All the meetings we have are done remotely via MsTeams, however they still require being physically in the office the majority of the week. This, despite high gas prices & despite sending out company emails weekly indicating new instances of Covid cases found on for several employees across various floors in the building. - Incredibly Cold, Untrusting, & Unfriendly Environment -Never introduced to anyone on team when starting as new employee. Never (not even for a few seconds of time) asked anything about anything related to non-work things (e.g., any plans for the weekend, did you have a good weekend, etc).

Pros

You might get to work with the few good people that are left. There are plenty of open offices and parking spaces. Plenty of work. If you are lucky enough to get a good manager, you may not hate your job too much.

Cons

Upper management will micromanage every aspect of your work. If you fail, it is your fault. If you somehow manage to succeed, they will take all the credit. Even the new generation products are using technologies and frameworks that are quickly becoming outdated. Based on the rate of attrition, the people that are left, are having to do more and more work. Working remotely is frowned upon.
