Pros

Rank and file people we're really nice to work with. Work/life balance was pretty good. Comp was on to maybe slightly above avg.

Cons

Was required to edit because I guess I was too honest and discussed specific experiences of harassment and hostile work environment that the most senior manager engaged in and turned a blind eye to. Poorly run for decades. The TAIS "CEO" had the Midas touch in running each and every division he managed into the ground. Each and every one...without exception. CE? Gone. Tablets? Bombed. Enterprise phones? In the toilet. Imaging? Toast. Consumer PCs? Dead. Storage? Luckily moved to another group before he killed it. Corporate PCs? Seriously on life support...no seriously. I still know people there and everyone is waiting it out for the package that may not/prob won't come. Morale is lower than when I was there and I raised my hand to leave in the last mass RIF. And I haven't even touched on the fact this person has been dating a subordinate for years and allowed her to create a hostile work environment for years. Clearly an HR violation on so many levels. HR continues to turn a blind eye. I would not work here and I hope good people get out soon. Toxic is too nice a description. Go on...tell me I'm lying. I dare you.

Pros

Pay, Benefits, 401K (6% match), time off , tuition reimbursement, parental leave. There's little else that makes this place worth staying.

Cons

This review is specifically about Toshiba International Corporation (subsidiary) in Houston, TX, but Glassdoor won't let me select that as an option. First off, go to Google news and read all the issues they were having with the accounting scandal and then the embarrassment that happened with their nuclear division. Now they're forced to hack off limbs and selling their cash cow to fill the crater that the nuclear business left on their balance sheet in a company that was already posting losses and lying about it. Keep that in mind when you read the rest of this review because the mindset flows from Japan down to your CEO and supervisor. Upper and middle management are incompetent, and the performance reviews are designed so they can keep their jobs regardless of their performance. They suffer from the same issue that got Toshiba Japan into financial trouble in the first place. No one wants to tell management bad news because they're afraid and upper management won't delve into the numbers to ask questions because then they can't play dumb when problems comes to light. The overhead is bloated due to the support groups (legal, finance, accounting) who sometime just flat out don't do their jobs or try to have say outside their authority. Actually, the place is full of people who flat out don't do their jobs. High performers get burned out from picking up the slack from all of the other lazy employees. Also be prepared to be micromanaged because what terrible company won't be complete without that aspect. They have no idea what market research is. They think their products are great and innovative. They're not; just overpriced garbage. Currently looking for a new job to get out of this god awful sinking titanic of company.

Pros

Depending on which department you work in, for certain departments, you only need to do 4 hours of real work every week. 401K match is a minor plus too. You get max incentives almost every quarter.

Cons

Overall: Please Please don't look at 3.6 overall rating since Toshiba has different offices in different sectors across USA. This review is specifically for Toshiba International Corporation located in Houston, TX. Please stay away if you are in your early or mid stage in your career and still care for your career progression. But this is a perfect company if you are about to retire or good at playing politics since there is no real work to do at all. Toshiba international has a wide range of products from ASD, UPS, motors and battery systems. Right now they are only living on selling battery systems and products from Japan. None of the products designed in Houston, TX are selling. - Management: Lazy and incapable managers who are incapable of identifying tasks need to be done for a new project. Manager in key department has zero technical knowledge of their products - not even the basics of electrical and software engineering for their product, and this is leading to significant delay of their "life saving" new product. And manager is not aware of their structural problems due to the lack of technical knowledge and more sadly they are not willing to pay for technical training programs that the team is in urgent need for regardless what company policies are. - Culture: Some people here work for keeping their job safe. Some people here work for gaining more power. But nobody cares about employees and their products. Lies after lies. Engineers are commonly tired of political games and toxic atmosphere. Career progression - No career progression. 1. You don't learn anything since there is no work or all the work is highly repetitive because of intensive office politics. 2. Managers are incapable of leading a department in a right direction. 3. Managers don't care if you learn anything and don't promote fairly.
