Pros

3 month job in the summer if you need it in the heart of Portland! Main level staff is great! Lots of laughs and new connections!

Cons

The kids are great, coworkers are genuine but by golly are all the full time staff burnt out! Some managers are fantastic, others are lost, upper management is doing things as difficult as possible to make things ultra confusing for the entire staff. During this last summer’s training, me and my entire team felt like we got talked at by one person about trackers culture and had a quarter of the time to talk about what we were actually teaching in our camp. Training was confusing and did not set us up for success. Towards the end of summer it became clear that upper management focused on the wrong things (like buying pizza or icecream for us on fridays) instead of actually helping us succeed this summer. This con was so obvious and present that it made it difficult to finish the summer and I didn’t work the last week because I was quite exhausted. I don’t think I will return for another seasonal gig.

Pros

Learned a lot of skills for survival and wilderness Plant ID learned how to work with various children and backgrounds Each week was always different and something new

Cons

Can be extremely challenging at times, even on a daily basis Sometimes felt there was no support system in a vast space of employees No benefits Only seasonal, no guarantee for jobs lined up in the future Clique-y Heavily underpaid for what we do. It wasn't explained to us that overtime pay was included in our weekly salary-- it was explained to us in a way that it was additional to our weekly salary. We had 2 15-minute breaks but it could only be taken on the bus or some other time we could find on our own, but it wasn't well organized and oftentimes (most of the time) felt we were never able to take breaks.
