Pros

Was allowed to work freely in Azure with the latest technologies. Was able to bring new ideas to the table and adopt them across teams. Remote work friendly, with Teams, Slack, etc.

Cons

Management seemed out of touch with those in the trenches. Transact came from a hardware/software world, and is now moving into supporting a pure cloud software company. This has it's challenges. For example the CEO was recently replaced, (after I left). This is probably a great change for them! Middle management is rinsed and overworked and typically given all the weight. Those at the top have meetings with the middle, those at the bottom have meetings with the middle. But there's a loss of communication during this handoff.

Poor Leadership and Toxic Work Culture

Business Outlook

Pros

Some talented colleagues Exposure to fintech and higher ed payment systems

Cons

STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT A LONG TERM CAREER. Toxic leadership culture, especially among mid and senior managers — favoritism and micromanagement are deeply rooted. Poor communication and lack of transparency from the top; decisions are made behind closed doors and rolled out with minimal context or collaboration. Unrealistic expectations with little to no support — employees are constantly overburdened, and burnout is common. Minimal growth opportunities unless you're part of the “inner circle” or have personal ties with leadership. High turnover — talented people are either pushed out or leave on their own, leading to knowledge loss and team instability. Feedback is discouraged or ignored unless it aligns with leadership’s existing agenda; innovation is welcomed only if it comes from management. Politics over performance — employees were let go to make room for new leadership’s personal network, often brought in at higher designations. Designations are misleading — titles are inflated, but roles are largely individual contributor (IC) with no real authority or decision-making power. Unfair accountability — you're held responsible for outcomes even if you weren't involved or had no control over the task/project. Zero work-life balance — long hours are normalized, and working weekends is often expected. Hostile culture for dissent — speaking up or challenging status quo can lead to subtle retaliation or isolation.

Nice people in a pressure cooker

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Many nice people, a fair portion of executives are good servant leaders. Unlimited PTO policy and observation of personal time is fantastic. Some strong products. Average benefits. Good remote work environment.

Cons

A two faced, selfish and clueless executive. Micromanage when they want something, ignore you or throw you under the bus when it benefits them. High pressure product or market realities don't meet business goals. Product decisions sometimes based on executive whims instead of reality. Constant turnover. Perplexing reorganizations, little opportunity for advancement. Raises way below inflation, cheap and unpredictable 401k match.

We take your feedback seriously and we are always looking for ways to improve. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed working remotely, our benefits, and the recent change to flexible PTO. The senior leadership team seeks to provide an environment and culture that inspires our people just as we seek to inspire our clients, students, and campus communities. Our CEO, Nancy Langer, shares this philosophy, and that’s why she spends a significant amount of time meeting with employees at every level across the organization – to hear what they are working on and gather feedback on their challenges, their inspirations, and their specific areas of focus. Thank you for your service to Transact and for taking the time to give feedback.
