Pros

Tri-State compensates their employees very well. The benefits package is good. They are flexible when you need time for family matters.

Cons

The company is managed in a strictly top-down manner. Top management very rarely seeks input from the specialists who work for them, or even the senior managers who report to them. Unfortunately, these managers are not as knowledgeable as they think they are and the systems they implement don't solve the problems they are meant to address. There is a lack of teamwork. New and redundant systems are put into place as different mangers attempt to solve the same problem in different ways. The company has lost it's focus on serving it's members/owners as internal focus has shifted to pleasing management.

Pros

50 percent remote work option even though upper management would prefer everyone back in office full time. Salary is below average but insurance is decent. New hires are no longer included in pension plan, they just have 401k option.

Cons

Business outlook for this company is poor. They are a “cooperative “ and their largest member just left with 20% of the income stream. Downgraded by Moody, CEO keeps talking about getting Federal monies for renewables and R&D, but all that talk is really about getting handouts to stay a float. This company has no interest in renewables outside of being forced to do it. If you are starting a career look somewhere else. I don’t think there will be much left of Tri-State in 5 years.

Pros

The people here are great to work with. Very accomodating, helpful, and hardworking. It's also a meaningful place to work because what we do benefits cooperative utilities.

Cons

Tri-State is losing people to other jobs that offer better compensation and more schedule flexibility (i.e. full remote positions). They hold town halls for questions employees have, but whenever full remote and better compensation is brought up, it is dismissed as a joke. Most groups have at least one unfilled position, if not more. Tri-State is having a hard time attracting new talent. And the employees that stay are doing more work and not being compensated for that additional work.
