Pros

The Charlotte office is nice. Pay is slightly higher than the other big banks. Now that leadership is all Suntrust, great place to be for heritage SunTrust leaders.

Cons

BB&T and SunTrust finished the merger in Feb of '23. Since then, it's been a nightmare. The company was spending money on anything and everything during the merger process but now that it's complete, the analysts are killing Bill and Mike every earnings calls. After each call for the last year, leadership has introduced a new initiative to cut costs by hiring new leaders, firing old leaders, reduce headcount and offshore projects. -Too much work for too few people -Projects that have taken a year are thrown in the trash because the team you were working with got layed off over the weekend -Another 3 rounds of layoffs are expected in '24. Leadership has been firing BB&T employees first, people who joined the company after the merger second and SunTrust employees first.

Pros

Truist has a lot of good people that still work here, and it operates in some of the best markets in the country. For early career talent, it could be a place to get a start.

Cons

Unfortunately it has become abundantly clear that the merger has failed. There was an opportunity to create a terrific new company, and that opportunity was squandered. What is left is a company with poor client experience and expense management. Truist is currently savagely cutting expenses which will only hurt the client experience. And the teammate experience will only deteriorate from here. It's a shame that Truist has become a Wells Fargo recycling facility.

Pros

My time with BB&T was amazing. I had a fulfilling work/life balance. Teamwork and community engagement were core values for everyone with whom I worked.

Cons

As the merger between BB&T & SunTrust progressed, my position was mapped to a "demotion". On top of my career resetting 8+ years, we were not given raises across the board to "fund the merger". More people took the exit packages (for eligible heritage employees) than expected and our workloads increased with no help to offset - there was a hiring freeze for our teams until after the merger was complete. As the merger dust settled, many BB&T senior managers and directors were out and SunTrust leaders placed in their positions. The morale of employees sunk and the positive culture "left the building".
