Pros

Coworkers were nice, paid health insurance and pet insurance

Cons

They do not care about your work/life balance. The trainers are awesome but once you’re out of training, it’s like you know absolutely nothing because they are forever changing how to deal with situations, send out multiple emails where you’re only allotted 15 minutes before and after your shift to try and read a stack of documents (good luck tho because that’s all you get to finish up your work at the same time.) Then if you mess up because you didn’t have time to read 7 email updates sent out within a few hours, you will get attitude from your leaders that just send you website links instead of actually helping you. In the last year they’ve stacked work load/expectations merging with chewy but also cut the bonus structure. When chewy is paying MORE for their agents to know 1/4 of what we do! Last but not least, the benefits. Lots of PTO but was almost never actually able to submit it, there was rarely a good chunk of time where you could get more than 2 days off at a time months in advance (unless you babysat the calendar allowing you to put requests in as soon as it was live.) If you need to use any other benefit expect short answers and attitude from payroll and the benefit team. This is a cold, high stress, corporate job that in my opinion is not worth anything that they offer.

Pros

They were once amazing but no more. Rare I mean super rate to get promoted or able to move to other departments. Managent is sub par and inexperienced. They completely changed their commision to a first call resolution whch is 7 DAYS. They discourage tenure and they do offer a stock option if you are able to last 5 years to be vested but their is a 1 in 500 or more chance you will make it that long.

Cons

Inexpeienced management First call resolution of 7 days and that is if customers call back in regards to ANYTHING it will impact you. Bullying mentality and extremely clickish and the company is CHEAP! we are talking frugal. Mayjor tech issues and very little support. Systems do not communicate to each other and they have started outsourcing job functions to the Phllapines.

It's definitely not an un-call center

Pros

Chai latte machine in the break rooms Lots of dogs in the office Amazing team members - I'll have lifelong friends from this company. RSUs (this is a mixed positive and negative) You get to interact with pet owners (also a mixed positive and negative) I have taken actions that have led to the saved lives of pets before and I know that. This is genuinely the best pet insurance product there is, and it's an honor to work for it.

Cons

The reviews that mention frustration with management are correct. The callers are brutal, and this is true of any member facing position at the company. I've had to take multiple days off work before as a consequence of a single call. It's easy to look at that and say "well, some people just aren't made for this" but I genuinely don't think anybody is. I've seen callers say horrible things on calls to multiple coworkers that, on paper, would mean consequences and protection to the team member. In reality, it seems their $$$$ coming in meant more to the company's bottom line than team member's mental health. It is true that call centers in general don't provide protection to agents and view us as disposable (look at any call centers turnover rate), but Trupanion calls themselves the un-call center, and the lack of protection against abusive and brutal callers is definitely a negative . No raises, and performance based roles make it really hard to take PTO. RSUs tend to take the place of what normally would be raises. But I notice people compensate not getting raises by moving up to another position or just leaving the company. My department in particular has incredibly high turnover. Like a previous reviewer for this company, I was also a 'favorite'. Perform(ed) really well and have broken records. I can't help but feel like I am only useful to the company when I'm keeping up that speed. I feel like there's a sort of Amazon-esque tendency to toss people out as soon as they're spent. In general, it just feels like the company's ethos around mental health excludes contact center employees, because we're expected to just 'take it', no matter how brutal it gets, and if we can't handle it, well, I guess we weren't meant for this. The technology can't seem to keep up with the needs of the company, and that causes functional issues. There's definitely favoritism in the company, and the reviews that mention cliques aren't untrue. Everyone is nice on the surface, especially at first, but once you get inside the company you notice the cracks. You want to stay because you love the product and you want to help the pets, but the culture just isn't healthy the deeper inside Trupanion you go.

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. It's clear you care about Trupanion and its employees as well as pets and the mission to keep them healthy. On the other hand, it sounds like your role has been really trying at times (to say the least) and you're not getting the support you're looking for to help you cope, let alone thrive. I'd be very interested in connecting with you personally to hear more about your experience and recommendations on how we can do better. I'd also be happy to connect you with a People and Culture Partner. Either way, you can reach me on Teams or at bryn.lansdowne@trupanion.com.
