Pros

Benefits, nothing else. Pets and the non “managers” were great to.

Cons

I was a “favorite” during my time at the company which you’ll notice is a common trend in reviews. Either way I’m literally still traumatized from the abuse I experienced from customers and manipulation from managers. I was promised so many things and it never came through. This company shouts culture from the rooftops until you get inside and it turns into whispers. It’s not worth it.

Thank you for sharing your experience, as it is insight like this that can only help us improve. As with any company, it is crucial that we have the right leadership in place to mentor, grow and inspire our employees. An issue was identified with leadership within your team and has since been dealt with, not to say that the work ends there! If you do feel comfortable sharing further insight to help us improve, please reach me directly at Anna.Berentson@Trupanion.com to set up some time to chat.

Tons of growth opportunity but unrealistic expectations

Pros

Amazing pets and some amazing people. If you work hard, you can move up in the company. If you survive 5 years, you get a sabbatical. Solid benefits as a whole.

Cons

Lots of top-down decision making and self-proclaimed "experts" meddling in areas they have no expertise in. Expectations are unrealistic and it's a culture that values working overtime vs achieving a healthy work schedule. Leadership is reactionary and employees are left in a constant state of disarray with unfocused areas of prioritization (or more commonly asked to prioritized *everything*). No formalized salary review process and salaries across the company are very hidden. If you want a raise you are going to have to beg for it, and will likely be told to just hit your quarterly objectives if you want more money.

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback about your experience with Trupanion. We recognize that this team has gone through tremendous change over the years and that comes with better opportunities to set up the team for success going forward. Compensation is a continuous conversation that we are having at an enterprise level, which includes better education to our leaders and more transparency for our team members on this subject. If you would like to set up a time to chat further and share more insight, I would be happy to meet with you. Please email me at Anna.Berentson@Trupanion.com.

Pros

Paid sabbatical, PTO, pet insurance, universal healthcare, and a pet friendly office.

Cons

Trupanion is a company that really likes to promote from within and sometimes that’s not a good thing. The “cliquey-ness” of everyone from customer care to middle/upper management is is really annoying. They’re constantly spreading toxic positivity that’s hard for someone who suffers from depression or anxiety. They taut that they’re inclusive of those issues but after over a year on the job with no performance issues, they still wouldn’t allow me to work from home even though I had accommodations. When they finally did let me work remotely is was because of the impending pandemic and that was only because they were forcing everyone to work remotely. My director and manager were so cliquey it was uncomfortable to be able to talk to either of them for fear of being punished by the other party. It might have been different if I worked with another team but it was not great for me.
