Pros

Fully remote. You get to talk about pets all day.

Cons

Things used to be great until Margi took over and Darryl stepped down. Now the culture and environment is nothing but a fairy tell. No performance reviews. No cost of living wage increases No wage increases period. In fact, they think they're paying too much and attempt to dock pay to improve their bottom line No communication between departments much less your own department Unqualified ATMs that are on power trips Nepotizm prevents career advancement Management will change your contract as they see fit and tack on additional responsibilities with no extra pay, no guidance on how to compete these additional tasks, and no extra time to get them done. The icing on the cake is hiring a "workforce planning' team that will harass you if you're +-5 minutes out of "compliance" with lunch or breaks. This place will micromanage you to death. Fairly certain that they're just hoping the tenured agents will all quit so the next wave of hirees will come in that they can treat like crap and get away with it.

If you value your mental health don’t work here

Pros

1 free policy for your pet

Cons

I could probably write a novel on how horrible this company is. When I started here 4 years ago, it was truly a great place. Was excited to show up to work and proud of what I did. If only that lasted. After our founder left, this company started to go down hill fast. Managers became less caring, more micromanaging, cut bonuses by half, and overall treatment is garbage. Rates have become so outrageous that customers legit laugh at you! But we’re expected to tell the customer that $400 a month is feasible if they truly care about their pet. They are so out of touch it’s unbelievable. They will legit nitpick every single call and just degrade you. Don’t think I’ve ever received a compliment here to be frank. How sad! If you have any respect for yourself and care about your mental health—AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST!

Dysfunctional

Pros

Health insurance benefits are great (but expensive if you pay for a dependent). Some room for growth if you work with the right people. Could probably find comparable benefits at other companies.

Cons

To say this company is dysfunctional is an understatement. Company leadership and GMs continuously make rash decisions, contradicting their previously made rash decisions, leaving little time to develop strategy or take insights from programs. Day-to-day micromanagement from leadership is debilitating, often pushing timelines and erasing any possibility of program success because of how late programs are launched. To solve for unsuccessful leadership, they hire middle managers who end up acting out of fear of not doing exactly what leadership asks of them. This fear permeates between all teams, making for a completely divided company and teams that only work for the whim of their leader’s needs, not the greater company goals. This company needs change from the top down, not more middle managers. Working for Trupanion will quickly show you how to not run a company.
