Pros

Benefits, remote work, excellent training program and staff.

Cons

The training program can't be beat. Extremely well-organized. Each member of management you are introduced to during the process is so encouraging, kind, and supportive. You leave the training program having so much belief in and enthusiasm for the product and the company as a whole that you're pumped to move into production mode and give it your absolute best. For many, the enthusiasm is very quickly squelched by very young, very inexperienced managers. Some will address you in a manner that makes you feel like you need to prove you're a decent human being who isn't going to do a major disservice to the company. You may feel patronized, humiliated, belittled, and get your spirit completely crushed by the micromanaging. I made a difficult decision to leave a lengthy career in a management role to be able to shift my focus more on family and my mental well-being. I showed up at Trupanion with a lot of valuable experience under my belt, prepared to give the company my absolute best. The carelessness and inexperience of some members of management not only threaten to diminish your self-worth but destroy the enthusiasm you had for being a top performer for a company the training program gets you really pumped to support. During training I told so many friends and family that I hoped it wasn't all too good to be true, and sadly it was. Much work needs to be done to properly prepare the very young people that are being placed in management roles so that really good people aren't lost.

Pros

Fun people, dog friendly office, great benefits, lots of PTO. If it weren't for the benefits and enjoying my coworkers, I'd have quit a while ago.

Cons

Wow, where to start... there are so many.... Incompetent management. All they do is make unrealistic goals without providing tools or resources to be successful. The company as a whole is unprofessional, which can feel fun at times, but ultimately leads to managers and higher-up's getting away with things they shouldn't. HR is a joke and you can't trust them with anything. Management won't take any ideas for improvement. When teams aren't growing at the rate we "should be" (based on unrealistic goals), they tell us to be creative to push for more growth, yet when a good idea comes up to help growth, it's quickly shot down. The base pay sucks and is not competitive in Seattle's market for other Account Manager roles. Our technology seems like it's from the 90's. Phone systems constantly crashing, computers locking people out, CRM system is slow and practically archaic. The IT department's response is often "Turn it off and back on." No 401k match. No performance reviews. No raises in base pay offered... when we asked for a COL raise, management said "we don't do that here." From your first day at the company, they're feeding you Kool-Aid about how amazing Trupanion is for pets and pet owners. I agree this company does some good, but the ultimate goal is money - not helping pets. And perhaps the biggest con is the money-hungry executive team. They have the goal of pricing people out of owning a pet without insurance. They have said time and time again that vet clinics should raise prices so pet owners need to have insurance. Trupanion is marketed as an insurance company that isn't like other insurance companies, yet they are just that... sleazy and greedy. They brag about generating a billion dollars in revenue but can't even pay their employees above the poverty line in Seattle. Don't be fooled by the false image of a fun, inclusive workplace and look somewhere else for a job...

Pros

Dogs? Decent benefits. Work from home,

Cons

Toxic work environment, misleading direction, constantly shifting goal posts, ineffective leadership, retaliation, and feelings winning out over professionalism. My time there was fine at first. Then the cracks started showing and became gaping chasms. More and more responsibilities were lumped on my team, with zero support, or resources allocated to assist us. We were chronically understaffed for over a year, and constantly were told that they were unable to hire anyone. When we asked for help, help was actually rescinded making our jobs more difficult. WE had zero leadership on our team for months, and then we were told that we had failed in several aspects that we had called attention to and raised concerns about month prior. Our leadership had decided to stick its head in the sand and needed scapegoats when the time came. I would advise anyone to avoid like the plague.
