We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback! I am glad to hear that you did enjoy our pet-friendly office, benefits package and work-life balance, as those are things that we are proud to provide as an employer. That being said, it sounds like your experience working at Trupanion had some frustrations when it came to compensation and 401k matching. We are actively working to update our compensation structure and we have brought on a new team member who is focused on compensation analysis. We are also exploring offering 401k matching to our benefits package in the future. If you have further insights that you would like to share, please email me at bryn.lansdowne@trupanion.com and I would be happy to schedule a confidential chat.

Pros

Great pet friendly office/company. Many different departments.

Cons

Managers do not have accountability. They do not take responsibility for their failures as managers/leads and pick favorites. Like with many companies, managers are very loud and tout company policy, but not actually available when matters most. Be VERY weary of their "Trupanion is family," and "Family Culture." They will yell this until blue, but then have mass firings and completely ignore you when not in their immediate interest. Trupanion is small in one sense, but most teams have many workers and your progress and achievements will be completely ignored while others get praised for "doing 5 emails in one month! Yay!" Managers are very selective with their communication and will only bring attention to people at very certain times. Their bonus structure is constantly changing and not for the better. Company is constantly changing and not for the better. They are very notorious for not communication changes that affect your work, until after it's been exposed or had a negative impact. They will constantly promise to do better and repeatedly fail at this. New hires brought from outside of the company for managerial positions (regardless of relevance/qualifications) will be prioritized over long term employees who go above and beyond. Take everything with a grain of salt as while it is a great company and is preferred over many (their insurance policy for pets is overall superior to others) they will completely shut you out and cut their ties with you moments after telling you you are a valuable asset.

Pros

Paid health insurance, decent PTO, on site childcare if you have children. Lower management (direct supervisors) are supportive but overworked. Good work life management- if you're not in the office, you won't get called or emailed asking you to come in. Fairly mindless job.

Cons

Little to no growth, especially within the contact center portion of the company; if you're good at your position you don't have management breathing down your neck, but this also makes it difficult, if not impossible, to leave for another role or department. Customer care has such a high turnover rate that those who last more than 6 months are considered tenured agents. There are currently 4 CSR's with more than 2.5 years experience within the company; you either quit the job before you make it that long or manage to somehow switch departments. I think this company has a lot of corporate culture that needs to be developed, and upper management could be switched up for a breath of fresh air.
