Pros

Pay for technicians is decent. Opportunities for training in sterile compounding are also decent.

Cons

If you are a floor technician be prepared to cover a lot of ground and work pretty hard physically with what is going to be expected of you. In most cases your schedule won't be the greatest either. Switching back and forth between days and evenings. Different start times for either shift depending on where you are working that day. Management in the hospital absolutely treats pharmacy like crap. If nursing can't or won't do something correctly then the answer is to pawn it off on some other department, often pharmacy. Pharmacy management is either unwilling to or unable to do much in the way of dealing with this sort of thing Pharmacy staffing, especially for technicians is always under staffed. At best it gets closed to properly staffed and then any call out throws everything into a mess. At this point I feel that people call out more than they used to but I can't say I blame them. Employers need to catch up and staff more than the bare minimum so they can better cover for sick calls and vacations. TMC has a pretty good policy on PTO that is a pretty good incentive once you've been there 10 years or more. They even encourage you to take time off for your own well being. That being said, Expect some minor grumbling or worse when trying to take PTO. Recurring sick calls, inadequate staffing can make taking time off less of a stress reliever than it should be. It's especially annoying that when you are gone for an extended period you are likely still going to be dinged for not completing monthly assigned duties that are often difficult to complete in the time available even when you are at work the entire month.
