Pros

Senior management focuses well on stockholder value. My immediate boss was wonderful, and did not hesitate to recognize contributions or improvements. There are pockets of excellent bankers among bought-out regional bank acquisitions.

Cons

Local management have minimal ability to make decisions for their branch or branches. Good employees leave after a year or two to community banks that pay much better and let bankers decide issues themselves. Employees are like desks or chairs, and are not valued outside of their branch or district. Raises are minimal across the board year after year, (even in good years). There is minimal training or policy guidance for branch employees. There is minimal external or career-oriented training offered. Terminations may come without warning from above.

Pros

US Bank is a very conservative bank that looks for good people and does a good job of rewarding those people. The options and opportunities to grow are pretty good due to high turnover. The benefits for US bank are also pretty good, a 4% match with the 401k which is industry standard, as well as a pension plan benefit. US Bank has excellent management from CEO Richard Davis down to Their regional presidents. I find my senior management very active and involved, continually looking to promote from within. They are very concerned with making sure their employees are motivated, and statisfied in their jobs. Opportunities abound through the country with different jobs, and they are very willing to train the right people for those jobs.

Cons

US Bank is a behind other banks when it comes to pay, I would say by 5-15% depending on the job. This is due its conservative nature. However, if you prove yourself, over time you will have no problem earning the money due your title and seniority. The technology is not very great to work with at times, as computers can be old and slow, which becomes difficult to work with at the branch level. US bank is very stingy when it comes to expenses as well. I don't think that US Bank is as competetive as other banks when it comes to attractive products as well.
