Pros

Decent pay, benefits, paid holidays, over time possible for hourly but not for salary hires. Good location

Cons

I was lied to about my salary, and when I began orientation they refused to honor the original offer. They also hire females and expect them to work in houses with only male clients as well as large dormitories completely alone with no training except for current employee shadowing. They expect females to work overnight shifts alone as well also in all male houses or dormitories. They should advertise the VSA position as a security guard position because that is what it is. I believe that this company does not care about the safety of it's employees. If you are a female and do not have guard or policing experience I do not recommend this place.

Pros

Company parties ... .really that's it. Maybe because nobody wants my position it's not too hard to obtain.

Cons

Underpays employees and preferential treatment which leads to high employee turnovers. The Director even admitted they don't offer competitive pay at one of our meetings. When I began 80% of the workers were just celebrating their 1 year anniversary or less, very low for a company that has been around since 1992. They got no HR department only 1 person running HR at each of their locations. Highly liberal organization when the vets they are assisting is mostly conservative, which leads to high dissatisfaction from the vets and a lack of trust. They even treated me worse for being a conservative. Lack of opportunities to advance. They constantly overlooked my accomplishments when the vets gave me high satisfaction scores and praises. I was even overworked at one of their fundraisers but then they inconsiderately left me out of the company photo and I didn't get to hear the speech about how much I was valued as an employee...which made me believe I wasn't valued. They don't pay overtime, I am looking into a lawyer to see if they are legally allowed to do this as a nonprofit. The work is very physical at times. Unsafe working environment as they allow criminals to overstay longer than they should at their properties and puts both law bidding vets and staff at risk. They allowed the vets to rob them blind at times and violent behavior to escalate.
