Pros

There are some nice people that work in IT/IS, the pay was decent and the benefits were good.

Cons

Too many RN's managing IS/IT teams. They do not understand technology well enough to be in charge of it. Directors allowed team managers to behave in unprofessional ways and effectively did nothing to stop this type of behavior. It included unprofessional language, verbal attacks on people's character, and unprofessional behavior all around.

Pros

The vast majority of employees really care about patient care. Complex health needs of patients, complex business environment, complex relationship with academic side. Rarely boring. Low turnover in most positions. Gainesville is a pretty nice college city, and not like most of urbanized Florida.

Cons

Salaries and benefits for line employees keep declining, is no longer a "destination employer." Conversely, seems to be an excellent place to be a VP. Too much Studer influence (tightly controlled downwards communication, marching in step expected, divergent opinions not appreciated.) Could be Toyota-level crazy on continuous quality improvement, but mgmt unwilling to trust or empower employees to just do to. Low turnover in mgmt positions mean moving up is difficult. Moves slowly, as is true of most large organizations.
