Pros

20-25 days of vacation, free food on occasion, nice office and coffee room and location, provides lots of opportunities for CPE credit

Cons

No flexibility or work-life balance. if you are looking for public accounting, my advice is to go elsewhere, because I'm sure there are plenty of firms out there that actually care about their employess. additionally, their true colors really showed during the covid pandemic and not in a good way. they have made it extremely clear that revenues are their #1 priority. they don't care about their employees health or safety or making people feel comfortable during this time. we were REQUIRED to come back to the office extremely prematurely. and now they are putting employees back in two-person shared offices... while most of the rest of the country is still working from home for the forseeable future, and covid is worse now/just as bad as it was in april/may! they don't even give you the option to work from home or adjust your schedule unless you have a "situation", but that situation can't be that you are just not comfortable being around people for no reason. our job can easily be done at home, and anyone's job that can easily be done at home should be taking advantage of that for the safety of everyone. but no, not at UHY! the options for parents that have to home school their kids are honestly just a joke. instead of UHY just being flexible, parents either have to use up their PTO to stay home with their kids or take a pay cut to do so. every time the CEO sends a firm wide email i wonder if this is all just a sick joke. the longer i stay here the more i realize how greedy and shady the partners/execs are. it is deeply disturbing their blatant disregard for their employees and their families. bottom line, steer very clear of this place if you can avoid working here. company morals and priorities are all out of whack.

Pros

The office itself has a nice appearance to it, lots of space and light. The work itself is interesting, and at least you're never bored during tax season.

Cons

Instruction on how to perform tasks is always minimal at best. I was told to ask for help anytime, but staffers and higher-ups often get an attitude when I take them up on it. Tracey Powell, a principal at UHY, is especially cold and condescending when I try to go to her for advice.

Pros

You do get a lot of exposure to different industries. Half the year you will sit around and pretty much do no work, so not a hard job. If you enjoy getting torn into and treated like garbage this is the place for you.

Cons

HR just drinks the Kool-Aid and bows down to the partners. Pretty much a worthless department and is only there to show you how to log into the benefits website. The partners don't care about you and only care about lining their pockets. They have 0 interest in developing or training you. You get no guidance and when you screw something up you get torn into. No work is assigned to you, so you have to go around the office and hunt for work. Then they get mad you aren't more chargeable when you have 0 control over it. If you brown nose and are willing to step over anyone to get to the top this is the place for you. Everyone puts on a happy face that they like it, but they are only there for the money. I think Trump would be looking for this kind of management.
