      Pros

      Even though the newspaper business is struggling right now, the company is trying new strategies to make itself relevant to the readers. Right now there is a lot of opportunity to try new things.

      Cons

      Communication from corporate and upper management frequently is spotty and inadequate. Also, cost-cutting measures have left staff levels barely adequate. There is little respect for the traditional job of newspapers acting as watchdogs on government.

      Pros

      Nice looking building and facilities. People for the most part are friendly and down to earth. Well respected employer in the DC region. Female-freindly employer, but I do not know how long this will last.

      Cons

      Industry is in trouble as advertising shifts to Internet. Company will continue to agressively cut costs for some time to come. This means more and more layoffs in the future. Also, cuts in the training and development of people.

      Pros

      Negotiated pay and benefits are excellent. Company has the ability to pay for good benefits.

      Cons

      Lack of communication from management. They want employees to produce results for no cost to them. They want employees to be happy to do things for free. Company frequently gives mixed messages regarding the financial health of the company. Company often approaches solutions by wanting to pound round pegs into square holes. Success is the result of management decisions and failures are the result of poor work performance. Management says one thing about you to your face and says different things behind your back.
