Pros

Producers are compensated really well even if everything else is ignored.

Cons

Everything else. USI is so focused on new business and acquisitions that their is no support for service teams. They don't care if they lose business. Long term clients leave constantly and nothing is done to prevent it. Services teams are so understaffed that Account Managers do everything from accounting to certificates, to marketing and depending on the size of the client, claims handling. New clients have whole teams dedicated to them, but come renewal it's only the producer and account manager. Client service means nothing to USI.

Pros

Free sparkling water and coffee.

Cons

At the end of the day all this Company cares about is profits. Their employees are the least of their concerns. There isn’t any training in place, very little communication and the producers have full reign over the renewal process from start to finish. They do not respect the opinions of anyone else but those who are in the same echelon as them. Client teams are not invited to client meetings, and when they are, they usually aren’t expected to comment. It seems to be frowned upon to have an opinion if you are not a Producer or Sales Exec. If you voice your opinion in any way, and management doesn’t approve they will put you on the fast track to termination – because it is their way or the highway. Everyone there is disposable to them, even if all your past reviews were flawless (when they decide to have them). Since Washington is an “at will” State, they do not need a reason to terminate you – and will not give you a reason. The P&C department is cutting back on flexibility. They are no longer encouraging working from home and are extending peoples workdays to make up for the amount of people they have laid off and/or those that have chosen to leave on their own accord. Every one that has left, they have not replaced, and it is sort of a sweat shop mentality now. Also, you only get 19 days of PTO a year (total) – which is very low by industry standards, especially if you aren’t able to work from home. It seems like the old school insurance mentality is coming back into play at USI and while other companies are becoming more and more flexible, USI is moving in the opposite direction. When you live in a booming, fast paced City like Seattle you need to start looking at the benefits other Companies are giving to maintain talent and intrigue younger candidates.

Pros

The account service people are professional, smart, kind - people you'd want to spend 10 hour days with.

Cons

Everything. We are losing top notch people every single week. Literally. They've hired NO ONE because let's face it, who would come work here? Everyone in the Atlanta marketplace knows how bad things are here. We have clients leaving us specifically because we don't have any reputation for large accounts, we can't retain our best people and the house of cards is falling apart. I have never been in such a bad environment. People are just shell shocked. If you see positive reviews, check out the dates. They hold sales meetings and tell people to write positive comments, so there will be clusters of good reviews. Don't believe them.
