It's a job like any other when it comes to management, here there are several tiers of it and some you may not like all the time, some you love, some are just a typical boss. Either way when it comes down to it they pretty much have your back. It's an adventure center so yes sometimes you're gonna get awful customers, or ones who won't do anything out there or worse do the opposite of what you tell them to, and some people are just the rear end of a donkey. Deal with it. It's an hourly job so you get paid when you work and sometimes when there's not enough to do or the weather's bad you get cut early and that's a day of pay gone. Again deal with it, you should understand this going into it, they're a business, no matter how much they like you they're not gonna pay you to sit around and look pretty. If you're a chick you're gonna run into the occasional meat head coworker or customer that's upset he has to go with the girl cause now it won't be fun, but you shake that off, prove them wrong and don't take it personally, if you can't do that you shouldn't work here. It's boiling hot in July and august, cold in November, you have to be trained and pay for gear and yes it's expensive but then you should take care of it cause it will last a long time of you do, it takes work and effort, blah blah blah. Dude it's like any other job, there are always downsides of some kind, someone can always find something to complain about, but in this guides opinion the good totally out weighs the bad.

Becoming a raft guide is very difficult process. First, you are required to pay for guide school and equipment which will cost around $400. Then, you are required to pass a "Check out" test with a Senior Guide. This usually takes around 6 weeks before you successfully "check out" as a guide and begin working. If you calculate the amount of time, money and energy spent to become a guide. At their current hourly rate, it is very difficult to recoup your costs in one season, much less have any spending money left over. When the weather is bad, guides are sent home without pay. Also, if there are not enough guests to take rafting, guide shifts are cut early without pay. Tattoo are not allowed to be visible, so that keep that in mind if you have any tattoos. Because of the long lines in the summer, guests are often very impatient by the time they get into your raft. Or, they have already done a number of activities during the day, and have no strength left to help paddle - which leaves the guide to do all the heavy paddling for the trip.
