Cons

Lower pay than with commercial organizations Plenty of bureaucracy and rules Houston traffic

Pros

many excellent colleagues variety of core facilities for research good benefits: health insurance, retirement, vacation time, sick leave good programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows open for international students, researchers and physicians

Cons

lots of bureaucracy lack of leadership and resources (as state funding decreases, making/saving money became top priority) salaries are low (except for some top departments, centers) IT management is constantly changing, doesn't keep up with the advanced technology
