Pros

- Free healthcare (yes, you read that correctly) - Extremely inexpensive dental, eye care - Part of the TRS pension system - Hybrid schedule saves you from two days of commuting

Cons

- Although they say pay is based on the market, it's a bit lower than where the market truly is - If you have worked in higher education before, you know that lots of people want their hands in your projects. Same applies here. - Faculty are also doctors so you've got to deal with some very large egos - Busy work is given to me despite more pressing jobs needing to be completed - Parking in the Texas Medical Center is extremely expensive (over $1,200/year and that's one of the more affordable options) and not subsidized by the organization - Long, stressful commute depending on where you live

Pros

Flexible work environment that allows hybrid work; many opportunities to learn and work on a great variety of tasks; good work environment (mostly depending on team members).

Cons

If you work on grant funded projects, the opportunities for growth are mostly limited to faculty members. Staff depend on getting more grants to continue their work, or getting hired onto a different funded project. Vacation time is extremely low compared to the private sector. Working parents need to spend a lot of money on childcare. Paid maternity leave is limited to being allowed to take your vacation and sick days off when you give birth - everyone returns when their baby is 3months at most.

Pros

Great benefits, great people, a lot of perks, looks great on resume.

Cons

Don't pay enough, a lot of research and grant funded work so job may not be guaranteed.
