Pros

Gratis for Prestige Managers and consultants, If you work for a boutique brand such as Benefit, Lancome, or Clinique, you get a set amount of hours! Lost of room for advancement. Company is big about promoting from within. If you have a great team that makes the difference. I came from a very high volume location, so I had 16 girls on my team.

Cons

The company is ever changing and not in a way where I wanted to be apart of it. I remember back in the days where prestige didn't event have numbers to ring at the registers. They were able to focus on Ulta Beauty values and truly master "Give Wow Experiences." Now they are constantly getting called up, and if they're in a consultation, they're getting told a billion things and being rushed to hurry up. I know as a consumer I'd never have that if I was shopping and someone was rushing. I'd never want to return because I know I could go to Nordstrom where they'd take their time. I never felt I was able to truly master be a Prestige Manager, because I was being micromanaged. I know for myself, my management style is complete opposite and if my team is performing and making the numbers, at the end of the day you want to be their support and cheerleader. I think the best lessons learned are when you learn from your own mistakes. I also feel as a company the pay is ridiculously low for everything you have to do. Meet with vendors and discuss the business, plan and organize events and review the numbers, get asked to ring at the register, be there for my direct team of 16, book appintments for events, clean, stock, be security for LP issues, cover managers lunch, assist customers, then constantly have to keep up with the ever changing and added company policies and procedures. Have coaching conversations with team when told they're not performing. Pat downs before leaving the store. Too much micromanaging. The morale in the store was bad!

Pros

Set schedules, competitive pay, built in business building tools and training, great health benefits

Cons

Upper management loses focus of company values, tasks continue to increase workload, achievements go without recognition frequently, annual raises withheld if you don't exceed your yearly numbers, growth opportunities without relocation are far and few in between and often are not posted for all interested parties to apply, very little communication under general manager to district manager....no support above store level.

Pros

More gratis than you know what to do with, you get to help women look beautiful and be creative doing it, great networking opportunities in the beauty industry, ability to lead a team and inspire employees to grow in the industry, brand trainings are fun, educational, and you receive free products! Gratis, gratis, gratis! Company website acts as reference tool so there is always an answer to your question at your fingertips.

Cons

The environment can be immature and catty due to a lot of entry-level, unprofessional, and immature employees and managers. There are too many managers, and things get disorganized and confusing if areas of management become disjointed or if there is lack of communication between parties. The company believes in minimal floor support and maximum work output in minimal time, which leaves staff feeling stressed and inefficient. This reaction can lead to more cattiness and finger pointing fueled by insecurities and egos gone haywire. You deal with the public which can be stressful because even if you're dealing with a psychotic, evil person you have to kiss their you know what and over compensate for everything. It is basic customer service; however it is very energy draining.
