Bad Place to Work

Pros

the discount of 25% is better than most places, and discount increase for one week near christmas.

Cons

Bad District Managers who run the company like its high school. Lot's of Upper Management (General Managers and Associate Managers) taking credit for "mentoring" lower management to get ahead, also they tend to throw anyone under the bus to get ahead. Growth potential not based on merit (ie how hard you work or length of experience) but on how close of "friends" you are with the District Manager or General Manager. Also LOOKS are very important to success at this job, ie if you look like a manager you can get promoted even if you don't meet the job requirements. They dont want to hire people who work hard and smart but people who will be a "Yes Man" regardless if it in the interest of employees or the clients.

Pros

Room to advance, encouraging environment, pay is good compared to our competition. Love the gratis! Love working with the customers. For the most part a good work-life balance.

Cons

Ulta needs to consider what cutting hours is doing to their bottom line. No sales people on the floor means that good customers are walking out dissatisfied. Cutting hours in your prestige department is taking sales away from the company. People want and like customer service. So many people are leaving there frustrated and empty handed. Cutting hours also causes Ulta to lose good employees. Managers are often over worked and left alone to do too many tasks that they will never get done or that causes them to lack in their customer service. Ulta also needs to revisit their ideas about what training their employees on new products does for their sales. They have basically taken that away from us and I can definitely see a difference in sales because of it. Just a few simple things to tweek and this would be a 5 star company to work for. Isn't really all about the customer in the end? I think Ulta is forgetting that.

Pros

Getting to work with makeup and working with great loyal customers.

Cons

An environment filled with discrimination. If you do not fit the profile you can forget getting promoted. If you have a go getter mentality, want to strive for something better and have more than normal intelligence, expect upper management to squash those dreams of ever getting promoted.
