Pros

Employee discounts are probably the best reason to work for Ulta if you are into certain products that Ulta carries..

Cons

Management doesn't treat all employees equal, nor do they follow the rules that are implied to their employees, when there is a concern that you have with a manager it never seems to get resolved and when you call a district manager, you are lucky to get a call back.... Managers are never consistent in their own jobs and with employees, we basically become slaves right before a walk through because management never wants to reveal how they been actually running the store, If you are trying to look for employment with ulta and think this job is a resource of paying all your bills, Its not a job for you. Hours are given to you in the amount of sales that the store makes, and the hours you do get are very minimum, for example if you have a car payment this job will not help you, you are lucky to even get 15 hours a week...and it don't matter what department you are in and how much experience you have everyone makes the same amount which is minimum wage... another thing is, do not expect or count on hours given to you on your schedule because most often times management sends you home early, and if you are a closing associate management always likes to leave early for there own personal pleasures and are not considering the stores needs of maintenance and employees concerns of getting all there hours..Couple of times an associate would come into work and before they could even clock in they were told that their shift was cut, The lack of managements concerns in pre warning their employees of hours being cut or even a phone call to let you know that your shift has been cut is so unpredictable. I was surprised when an associate had mentioned that management forgot to call to let the employee know that her shift was cut.. Maybe employees should start calling in to work to make sure they are still scheduled for their shift so that they are not wasting their gas and time... Don't believe in open door policy nor believe when any manager says to go to them about any concerns or any conflict issues with another manager because it is never confidential as they say it is,

Pros

if you work in the salon you get any salon service done for free, and if you work for the store side you get half off and even up to 60%.

Cons

I’ve worked for ulta for 2 years and at first i really liked it. All of us that worked for the salon got along great the store side did have some issues but they really weren’t big. but since I’ve worked there we have had 3 diff GMs. and me and 2 other girls are the only ones that have worked there for over a year and a half. the dm can not seem to keep any managers in the store long enough to actually fix problems we’ve had 5 salon managers in the last 2 years the last salon manager hadn’t done hair in 15 YEARS!!!!! and didn’t know how to use a computer. which are both part of her job. after numerous complaints from employees and customers she was replaced. and now they have replaced her with someone that can do most of her job. but still doesn’t know how to run a salon. She has asked employees to clock out in the middle of the day and come back later when there next client comes in because the salon was over hr. (which is against the law in cali, and I belive so in az also) asked employees to(work off the clock) not come in but take mandatory conference calls from home so they don’t use salon hr. and don’t get paid for them. She’s very rude to her employees. I’ve worked for other company’s and have never worked for a company as disorganized and mismanaged. also telling employees about mandatory meetings 2 days before the meeting and then when someone cant come because the meeting is on there day off and wont be in town.she told them that she would have to write them up if they cant come.

Pros

The team I worked with was genuinely supportive, kind, and made every shift more bearable even fun. I built real friendships and connections that extended beyond the job. I was able to make a real difference in the guest experience and store environment, which mattered to me. I learned a lot about leadership, people, and how to stay grounded in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting. Working with so many beauty brands gave me a broader skill set I’ll carry into whatever comes next.

Cons

The company puts way too much focus on numbers and credits, and not nearly enough on the people making it all happen. Loyalty and hard work don’t seem to matter when decisions are made from a distance with no context Communication was often messy, leading to assumptions and reactive decisions that hurt morale There were moments where the pressure and politics of management drowned out who I really was. After years of giving my all, it was clear there wasn’t much protection or recognition when it mattered most. The corporate structure doesn’t leave room for nuance, and that leaves a lot of good people overlooked or burnt out.
