Pros

Easy job that doesn’t require a lot of physical work.

Cons

Consistently hires new employees at higher rates than old ones and doesn’t give long-term employees raises to match. They encourage you to quit and get re-hired to get a raise because it’s easier than actually getting HR to approve it. It’s a decent short term job, but long term you’ll be stuck making close to what they hired you for, while newer employees are making anywhere from $1-4/hr more than you. When you ask them to adjust it, they’ll tell you it’s a long process and that HR will deny it a few times first and tell you it will take a lot of patience. I’ve been told a few times that they are aware of the issue and that all the other long-term employees have had to deal with this as well. They also tend to cut hours for the older employees in favor of scheduling the new ones for training. They often change your schedule by adding, changing or taking away shifts without notice. This can happen anytime from the week of to the same day as your shift. They expect you to check WorkJam daily to see if your shifts have changed rather than scheduling for 2 weeks out and leaving it as is. This makes it very hard to make plans outside of work, or have multiple jobs.

Pros

My only pros are the others I worked with and the free product.

Cons

We were supposed to get a bonus for hitting our yearly sales goal, never got it. I was expected to bend over and let customers do whatever they wanted and accept returns, even for items we didn't carry, because our GM "didn't want to fight" with them. I was told by our GM to commit fraud (I refused) when processing returns. The store was dusty, messy and we NEVER had enough hours to have enough staff to get any of the work done that was expected to get done. The salon staff were rude, unhelpful and called off work CONSTANTLY and the GM didn't care and would alter their timecards. Our GM was fired for timeclock fraud (her own timecard), and we were all told to basically pretend it didn't happen. I worked over 75 hours in one week because we didn't have enough staff and no one cared enough to do anything about it except make the managers fill in. I would NEVER recommend anyone work here. You're underpaid (cashiers barely made $10/hours and we were encouraged to offer them basically pennies), customers get free reign to yell at you, and you watch people steal product all the time and you cannot do anything about it.

Pros

Pay Employee Discount Employee Gratis Resources Health Insurance is GREAT Dress code isn't uniform however, there are guidelines but it gives you the ability to dress comfortably and add your own personal flare. Open toe shoes are acceptable, as long as toes are well manicured and you are not working shipment or tasks. You are allotted more payroll hours each day/week based upon sales which helps with completing tasks and payroll is adjusted for the volume of Ad/Planograms as well. Overall it is a fun environment to work with products you are passionate about and educating customers on cosmetics, skincare, and overall wellness. More brands are constantly being acquired so it is exciting to see new product each month.

Cons

ALOT of ORC (Organized Retail Crime) that you have to witness, do nothing about and then report. Always difficult to pinpoint loss so inventory is off majority of the time and you can only adjustment inventory once a week unless it is a burglary report. Security Guards cause more of a nuisance than provide a present to deter theft. Systems/Internet is VERY SLOW and computers are old. * Most Cons are just Typical Retail* You might as well just disregard but here they are: If you are a leadership outside hire, despite your experience, everyone under your scope of responsibility believes they know better than you and your higher ups to do not help to enforce the chain of command. Most training is video-based and not hands on. You might get one or two days of hands on training for your area of responsibility. Several call outs from both part-time and full-time associates leaves you scrambling for coverage. Associates will openly complain about pay or hours but do not want to come in to help with coverage, even though they consistently call out (but this applies to all retail, so it isn't much of a surprise). Call outs always happen on Saturday, despite employees needing open availability on at least one weekend (employees typically choose Sunday as their only open weekend so that can work Ad Set and be out early - they all know how to shadily work the system). Taskers are messy and slow and will not follow guidance on how to neatly clean or stock the store (again not surprising in retail that constant babysitting and micromanaging is required to keep associates on task, just another annoyance that hinders you from getting your own duties done on time - everyone wants to promote but refuses to put in quality work). Associates do not take initiative (again back to retail 101 - expect to babysit and micromanage) Bonus is based upon payroll, retail sales, and salon sales. For a payout you must meet payroll and one other, either retail sales or salon sales. Bonuses aren't hefty but with a good GM payroll is easily attainable though and almost guaranteed. Attendance is a point-base system and points expire after 6 months. You can only be late 5 minutes before the system docks you, so you better always be on time.
