Pros

Really good management, interesting projects, career growth opportunities, competitive pay for the industry, the ESOP benefit is great, 100% remote, and a great work-life balance. I feel blessed to work here.

Cons

The billable hour system is kind of unfortunate. Non-billable hours are subtracted from anything past 40 hours a week. So, if you worked 3 hours worth of non-billable hours that week and you worked a total of 45 hours, you will only be paid for 42 hours. I feel like that is kind of stealing time from employees and also disincentivizes people to work more to grow the company. The PTO system, I think, could use some upgrades. We don't have many paid holidays here at Ulteig, so a couple more days of PTO per year would help us be an employer of choice in the market.

Thank you so much for writing the detailed review. It is great to see that you feel blessed to work at Ulteig. I understand your point about billable/non-billable hours. For those reading this who do not work in the engineering consulting industry, I will provide an explanation of what the reviewer is alluding to. This person is an 'exempt' employee, meaning that they work in a position with a salary (not a job with an hourly wage), with no requirement to pay overtime according to U.S. pay regulations. Like some other companies in our industry, Ulteig provides additional pay when salaried employees work over 40 hours of billable work per week. The rationale being that those hours are generally chargeable to a client, and generate revenue for the firm. The individual is correct that Ulteig does not provide additional compensation for other hours worked.

Pros

Remote work, plenty of support from folks on and off your team, diverse projects, good culture including diversity inclusion.

Cons

The billable hours system can be a significant stress factor since individual bonuses and productivity are based on it.

Thanks for the review and I am pleased to see how positively you feel about working at Ulteig. I especially am glad to see that you are getting so much support for your work. Good point about billable hours as that work we perform for our clients is our business model, and some employees work additional hours to meet project needs.

Thanks for the review. I am glad you appreciate Ulteig's flexibility and other aspects of our total rewards package. I hope you have spoken with your manager about the additional training that you need. Regarding your point on the 2% 401(k) match: the reason for that is because the company invests significantly more in the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), which is also a retirement benefit, and is 100% company funded.
