Pros

Get to be part of a company that builds cutting edge software. Unboxed has raised the bar for companies in Richmond on how to build innovative software. You get to be part of a company that is not stagnant, and always willing to take the responsible step forward with new technology. You will get to work on a small team of 5-10 people that will out deliver the larger "corporate" companies in town. One year at Unboxed is equal to 2-3 years of experience elsewhere. It's definitely a fast past environment for noobs, but overtime people learn, improve, and flourish. Opportunity can not go without being mentioned. Is rare to see a company in the middle of Richmond that gets to build such a diverse set of products. Whether its contributing to one of the 2 more populate enterprise products Unboxed offers or being a part of the custom world that can pretty much build anything that can help your Sales Team perform. It's always something new, fun, and challenging.

Cons

Working for a small company means you can't hide. Everyone has to do their part and work hard to take on new roles and responsibilities. An unfortunate side effect of this is turnover. When things don't work the company proactively makes change.

Pros

Creative, smart people at this company. They work hard to please their clients and each other. Since the company is a 'startup', there is little structure or rules. I learned a lot because I was exposed to many new projects and had to figure it out on my own. I also had the opportunity to wear many hats as there are never enough people to get the work done in a growing company. The company generates great ideas and I enjoyed working with some great people.

Cons

The culture needs work. Senior leadership is inconsistent and managers are inexperienced learning from poor examples. They make promises to clients without considering impact on those that must deliver the work, leading to way too much overtime, and cutting corners. The COO, in particular, while creative and smart; is controlling, micro-manages, undercuts his talent, and is overly critical. He has a knack for killing rather than instilling confidence in others. Leadership is quick to point fingers and fire others never taking responsibility for contributing to issues in the workplace.
