Pros

Coworkers and actual work is enjoyable

Cons

Worst management period, little to no experience on the railroad. From the day you're hired they are trying to fire you in order to meet the absurd discipline quotas. They are doing everything they can to run off valued customers with precision railroad (up2020) tactics. Therefore, shutting down yards and furloughing employees at a staggering rate. Stay clear of Union Pacific!

Pros

Good benefits, I really took pride in working for Union Pacific. Very stable, even during recessions. Good camaraderie with lateral employees

Cons

Culture of favoritism, If you don't kill animals as a hobby and chew dip...don't expect any favor. Company will compromise you, not compliment you...if you an urban warm weather guy, expect to move to a rural cold weather city. Upper level management tend to have poor people skills, very militant and don't understand people work better out of respect as supposed to fear.

Pros

Employee and Employer Funded Government administrated retirement system

Cons

Senior Managment totaly and completely out of touch with line employees. Open warfare form senior management on all "blue" collar labor. Complete and utter disregard for jointly agreed to collectively bargained labor agreements. Horrible work life balance.
