      It used to be great. Now not so much.

      Pros

      Decent Benefits, decent pay. If you are in the rental industry UR is probably the best looking horse in the glue factory.

      Cons

      Almost all decision making has been stripped from branch managers and sent up the ladder. Rate approvals for BM's are narrowed down to a very narrow range. Paperwork/paperwork/paperwork. If you aspire to be a BM, be sure you like to do clerical work first, otherwise stay in sales. What have you done for me lately atmosphere.

      United Rentals posseses the size and footprint to dominate the market.

      Cons

      United Rentals has forgotten the ABC's of rental and is trying to re-invent the wheel. Too many changes/elimination in management and experienced employees has reduced their knowlege in this industry, as a result they are making the same mistakes that have already been learned in the past. Most of the employees do not trust mid and upper management due to the continual turnover and will jump at the opporunity to work for the competition.

      Cons

      Base pay is weak for the convoluted commissions structure they offer. It is not as good as they pitch you. Lower management blindly pushes the corporate message/values (that, in my experience, are not applicable to management) and implement some standards or programs that usually hurt the sales process. You become a blind follower or you don't.
