Pros
USU has been a decent place to work until recently. Overall, the people I work with are warm and helpful. Most staff positions are salaried and employment feels secure. The benefits are excellent.
Cons
The salaries are rather low, but are somewhat offset by good benefits that include a low-cost health insurance plan and a retirement plan. The biggest problem for me is the lack of support for diversity from the new administration. The Utah State Legislature passed some terrible laws in the last session and the consequences are now making their way down to the ground-level employees. The new administration is falling in line without a fight. When I realized the gravity of the situation, I began job hunting. I thankfully received a great offer and I am making arrangements now to move out of state, which is probably what the legislature wanted all along. Congratulations. You win! You'r'e one person closer to a 100% white and delightsome state. I would not recommend working here unless you look and act the part of an obedient member of the dominant culture.
