Great company, Poor management

Pros

The president (Tony) is engaged, and ensures that policies and perks are in place to keep a happy company

Cons

Management (below Tony) spends to much time jockeying for other managers duties. The management creates a CYA culture that basically ensures that deadlines will always be missed.

Good people, poor management

Pros

VACCO has some really interesting projects from space to navy applications. For the most part, everyone is very nice, helpful and easy to get along with. As a small company, there are many opportunities to learn very quickly.

Cons

Management is extremely disconnected from those on the floor. Some do not take the time to understand what is going on and to relate the their employees which is causing resentment. They are a company that is trying to break into bigger business, but is not looking ahead to put systems in place to accommodate the larger business and this is also putting a strain on the relationship between the people on the floor and management. The president needs to open his eyes or get replaced for real change to benefit this company.

Pros

You get to work with great people who are working with the right attitude. Engineering department in particular is leading the way in keeping the right culture. They have a decent bonus package relative to other companies. Location and a 4 day work week is also a pro for this company

Cons

Too much bureaucracy for a small company. 4 day work week can turn into 5 very easily if its not monitored. Constant organizational changes. Outdated processes and infrastructure. People generally set in their ways and a lot of efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated.
