Pros

Employee discount Most hospitals are well equipped Can bring pets to work-some restrictions apply CE potential Matching 401-k, but not nearly as "matching" as it use to be

Cons

Toxic culture that comes from HQ and is replicated in its hospital management Employee benefits - healthcare is unnecessarily too high for the size of the company Raises, if you're one of few to get one, are not in keeping the cost of living-not even close. Hiring less qualified personnel to keep payroll down Keeping personnel that are negative, hostile, and bullying because the process of firing and hiring is too much work

Pros

The other employees I worked with were amazing, very close family. The discounts are out of this world awesome if you are a full time employee. Also would get free samples from companies such as pet food, heartworm and flea preventions as well as various vac merch.

Cons

The management is horrible. The team leaders fought all the time in front of employees and sometimes in ear shot of clients. They changed their polices on how they wanted things done all the time and you would be reprimanded at the smallest of things like not capitolizing a letter. I'm not joking. Since I was let go from my job the employees who I worked with and thought I was friends with now avoid me like the plague. I have a feeling that management said some less than favorable things about why I left. Being there for 5+ years leaves you with nothing and trying to find another job in a different field other than veterinary is extremely hard because employers think that all you did was play with animals all day. But that's not the case. I regret working there but I also grew from it so I guess there's something that came out from that. With as much money that the hospital made our compensation was atrocious. We would have several clients that came in and drop a thousand dollars or more and that would be more than I made in a month. Was there over 5 years and never made a dollar more per hour than what I did when I started. Don't get excited when the yearly reviews and raises come around.

Pros

Staff is very friendly and everyone is willing to help and teach new skills.

Cons

Because the hospitals are part of a corporation, a lot of tasks involved with the job are geared towards saving and making VCA money, rather than for the benefit of the animals or the hospital itself.
