Pros

They offer fair benefits and because they offer low salary, there are lots of entry level openings. There are opportunities for advancement, especially if willing to relocate and a smooth talker. Veterinarians have opportunity to make a lot of money if they can talk clients into "thorough" treatment plans. High net hospitals profit share. If you are in the right hospital in the right region, it can be an awesome experience.

Cons

Corporate focuses attention toward large and specialty hospitals. Difficult to retain clients due to high total invoices. Veterinarians and support staff pushed to only offer "best medicine" which is usually way beyond what clients can afford. High employee turn over rate due to low wages. Corporate, or "home office", creates "alliances" with vendors and restricts how patients can be treated. More and more upper level employees have absolutely no animal care experience and only care about increasing profit. As a hospital manager or medical director, you have to bend the rules to keep good employees and clients. As a hospital manager of a smaller hospital, you have to due the work of a business owner without the rewards. This includes 50-80 hour work weeks and always being on call. Large hospitals can "afford" to hire management support such as bookkeepers, department leads, inventory managers and maintenance workers.

Disingenuous Management Style

Pros

Reliable salary and benefits for doctors. Many hospitals are well equipped with modern diagnostic equipment. The CE requirement for doctors in stringent, typically doctors are current and up to date.

Cons

Most hospitals are managed with a reactionary, 'fly by the seat of your pants' management style. Policies and procedures are deliberately vague to allow management maximum flexibility to 'leverage' staff. Mid level management is under incredible pressure to meet targets and have no support in creating a positive work environment. Technicians are often shorted full time hours to make financial targets.Hospitals are so understaffed that work environment is stressful for reception, technician, and doctor teams.

Pros

some doctors are very good, and hard working co-workers.

Cons

Horrible managment!!!the supervisor current is grossly under qualified. Management does not have degrees and business decisions are made based on persons popularity vs. how qualified a person is for a position. There are new posiions made available every month suspiciously filled by a friend of the current supervisor or manager. The manager/supervisor have fired people just because they felt a person was a threat to them for standing up for fellow co workers or for whats right vs wrong. To sum it up the new supervisor is worse than the previous one was before. She takes 5 times the amount of cigarette breaks, gossips at her desks with the fellow assisant supervisor every day while co workers scramble to do the workload ment for 10 people on a staff of 3. Breaks and lunch are a rarity because the schedule cannot be made. The supervisor also uses threats and coercien towards people she does not like if she needs shits filled or other work done. If only this cycle were broken instead of the same mistake being made over and over by simply picking the wrong type of person to manage a staff. Most of the emails we receive daily are threats made by managements that we better do this or better stop doing that or discplinary action will be taken. This is usually regarding petty stuff that is not relevant but management decides to nitpick to make themselves look like they are working.
