Pros

You can make your own hours.

Cons

You can open your schedule as much as you want, but if your spots don’t get booked, you don’t get paid. If you have a “Teacher No Show” you get deducted $10 in pay per class. HOWEVER, not all no shows are the teachers fault. There have been plenty of times where the VIPKid app has had issues and it’s been a system issue, yet you will be deducted the $10. If you ask to have it changed, they won’t. They recently gave a apt cut to teachers.

Pros

Friendly staff in HQ Lunch and dinner provided Nice office

Cons

Unorganized - Day to day tasks constantly change making it difficult to anticipate and plan workload Bad leadership - Management does a poor job delegating tasks; doesn't take criticism well No long-term plan - The company doesn't seem like it knows what it wants to do Quality control - Many simple English language mistakes can be found in teaching materials because there's nobody to check before materials are sent out to teachers Too much control and credence given to parents - Parents have way too much power and can easily have a teacher fired for no reason at all

VIPKid Response
8y
It is unfortunate that your time with us wasn’t what you had hoped for. VIPKID has made quite a lot of strides in a very short period of time, and the staff is one of the reasons behind our rapid success. The nature of many businesses today is heading towards an agile environment – so there might be possible ebbs and flows from day to day. We are always proactively trying to strengthen our company, and believe that having everyone under one roof will help build stronger communication, as well as provide an even more efficient work environment. Parent feedback is an essential mechanism. However, the process of evaluating teacher contracts is very thorough and isn’t taken lightly. We appreciate your feedback, and wish you the best going forward.

Pros

These were the pros that attracted me when i first started: Pay ($8 base pay +$2 incentives per class = $10/ 25 minute class). Cash Incentives. Relatively good cancellation policy in comparison to other companies. Time flexibility and fully remote.

Cons

They changed everything except for working remotely. Our Class Incentives (previously $2/ class) are changing to ($0.80 - $2.1 per class). Starting base pay has been lowered from the average of $8 to the $7 range. Raises are being eliminated as a 'response' from the previous concern from teachers because even Veteran full time teachers were being denied raises for a long time. So they just did away with them altogether. That makes NO sense. Cash incentives turned to Token Incentives that are only usable inside the VIPKid platform and even then, they're stingy with those things. LOWer bookings for teachers almost across the board. Time flexibility has also not been great because we need to open up more time slots for students to book in order to make up for the loss of income due to the low bookings. VIPKid proudly boasts of 100,000 teachers and yet so many are losing money. This is just the latest among a long list of really shady things VIPKid has done to teachers with absolutely no transparency that hindered their income. We find out through the parents who are kind enough to let us know what's happening on their end.
