Pros

The greatest advantage to working for VIPKID is that it is very flexible and you set your own hours. Most of the kids are very sweet to teach.

Cons

VIPKID has shockingly culturally- inappropriate curriculum. They recently started to integrate a diversity of people into their slides, but the culture lessons still consist of the following: “Chinese people live in apartments.” “Americans live in houses.” “Chinese people eat rice.” “American people eat bread.” This is just one example of the material that is really missing an opportunity to create a cross-cultural and non-stereotyping experience for both teachers and students. Furthermore, the company is very strict and unfair in their policies for teachers. They rarely take the side of teachers, even when the parent is wrong and gives a poor rating. I have a 5 out of 5 star rating as a teacher and over 700 reviews, but VIPKID has never once taken my side when a parent has given me an unfair score.

Pros

flexible hours, great for parents with young children

Cons

VIPkid ALWAYS sides with the parents where there are behavioral issues or IT problems. They have given veteran teachers a pay cut but in turn raised the classes prices to parents and told them its to PAY THEIR TEACHERS MORE. Flat out lies. Absolutely ridiculous, VIPkid is only worried about themselves. They encourages us to send multiple cards and make multiple videos to children during the COVID outbreak in China but since it has moved to the US we haven't heard a single peep from about their care and concern for us. They also sweep open racist children/comments under the rug rather than make a clear and firm stance racism will not be tolerate by students. This company used to be so great, I am heartbroken.

Pros

The student relationships are great! The curriculum is very good.

Cons

They took away a portion of our pay by restructuring the incentive program. Most teachers will make much less with the new program. They have not offered a solution but rather have increased class costs to the parents.
