Pros

The flexible schedule was a bonus. They started a diversity team that really improved some of the racist content that had been in the class material.

Cons

They lowered my pay after working there for 5 years. Also, they will not be able to give work to the teachers that they have with the new law in China, but are still hiring. WTF?

Meeting and connecting with such wonderful Chinese families Great supplementary income Choose your own schedule Good communication between teachers and the company A lot of opportunities for professional development Good curriculum Many different types of classes to teach

Cons

The 12 hour time difference Very difficult to cancel classes due to illness/unforeseen circumstances Would prefer longer class times to provide opportunities for conversations that the students find interesting. Some certifications are by invitation only

Fun to work with kids if you like teaching kids ages 3-16

Cons

Difficult to cancel classes once booked, there are either financial or reputation penalties, even with advance notice. China's ministry of education is placing increasing limits and moratoriums on access to international tutors.

The kids are amazing! The classes are one on one. It was so wonderful to get to know the students and learn about their culture. The Major Courses are created well and fun.

Cons

The job is based off of BJT. If you live in America, primarily the West Coast, it can be exhausting. No insurance is offered.

I like working for VIPKid for the flexible schedule and ability to work from home. It is a fun classroom experience.

Cons

However, there is not always consistent work and I would like to have more interaction with the student's parents. I is also hard to cancel classes if something comes up and you are unable to teach a scheduled class.
